Jan. 22nd, 2012 06:06 pmI am currently actually watching a made for SyFy channel movie starring Joe Flanigan and John Rhys-Davies that involves giant monsters and what appears to be the same wooded area around Vancouver in which much of Stargate Atlantis was filmed. Craptastic? You betcha'. But I've actually missed seeing Joe regularly and so here I am...
Also I'm being drawn into Mycroft/Lestrade slash quite unexpectedly. I love the Sherlock series with an intensity that borders on the fanatical sometimes and Sherlock/Watson doesn't work for me on a variety of levels. Mind you I'm not saying I'll never read it, but my conception of Sherlock has always been that the man is completely asexual, and the series has definitely flat out stated that he's disinclined to romance and always has been. Well, the series goes even farther than that in "A Scandal in Belgravia" but I'll refrain from spoiling that.
But Mycroft, as cerebral as he most assuredly is, is also decidedly worldly and a man sometimes given to overindulgence (he mentions in "A Study in Pink" that he's been dieting and implies a long-term if not lifetime of weight issues) rather than complete non-indulgence. I can buy him as someone who'd hook up but only after he'd thoroughly vetted his intended partner and made absolutely certain he had and maintained the upper hand in the relationship.
It's also occurred to me that I may end up picturing Severus Snape as Benedict Cumberbatch in my mind's eye from now on. Can you imagine if they re-filmed the HP series and I got to see one of my favorite actors playing two of my favorite characters? That may be a happy place of mine for a long while.
In other fandom musings I'm still enjoying Person of Interest but the format with the expanded number of characters recently and the greatly expanded plot seems...untenable in the long term. I still like the characters and the basic concept but can they keep it going for another half a season? And beyond that, into multiple more 22 episode seasons? Now I know what you're thinking, "Oh you're just not getting enough Finch h/c", and you're right, I'm *so* not but that's not my main issue. I just really think JJ Abrams has way too many balls in the air right now, both within this series and without and as good as he is he can't keep them all spinning through the air indefinitely without something crashing down. It's still fun for the moment but I'm dubious about the future :(
