Wow, busy but fun weekend where many things were accomplished, with the notable exception of dancing *sad moo* which fell by the wayside in favor of working on my website, crafting, and hanging out with cool people. How can one run out of time on a three day weekend, I ask you? Somehow I managed to do just that.
But on the topic of dance, I highly recommend this fascinating article on a new ban in Egypt regarding foreign dancers.
Now back to the weekend. Friday evening was true chop suey goodness with "Shaolin Soccer" and "City Hunter" over at
cyranocyrano's place. Got some progress made on an afghan I've started with a pattern of my own creation. First time I've tried that so I'm quite pleased. Apparently the theme for the evening was baked goods as we all left a table full of them by the end of the evening.
Saturday was Jeepers Creepers 2 with L-, which was not as bad as I'd feared it would be. It was badly written and plotted and the execution left something to be desired, but the body count was high and the creature was kinda' fun, and hey, jocks getting eaten is never a bad concept in my book. Then we zoomed home to pick up Aelf and went up to Amarin Thai in MV. The vegetarian branch is absolutley amazing, and we were the only people in the whole place so our service was unbelieveable. Oh my god the food! I start salivating just thinking about it. We tried an appetizer plate that was to die for, then shared veggie pineapple fried rice (a meal in itself) and three entrees. We were all highly amused by the faux shrimp in the curry, they'd even taken the time to paint on the little red stripes, how cool is that? There was mass gorging and while I tried to balance out the fried stuff with spinach (it's green and good for you so it cancels out deep frying, right?) I don't think my thighs and ass were buying it.
Sunday was volunteering then up to RWC for lunch with
elo_sf and
phillipalden, dim sum goodness was enjoyed by all and I took possession once more of my beloved steam vac before bidding them adieu. Zoomed home and vacuumed then started the steam vac-ing, which moved along quite quickly and the improvement on all the carpeting was noticable. Yay clean carpets! Also had a surprise visit from
mallen, who I never see enough of, and heard of his oven saga. Poor dear, an oven is not an appliance you want to be without. Then finished up the housework and ended the evening feeling accomplished as more crafting was done.
Yesterday was, in a word, relaxing. Got up long enough to feed the kitties so they didn't turn to cannibalism, then back in bed where I stayed until about 11. Yay late mornings! Did a tiny bit of housework, but mainly crafted and watched "The Specials" then "Mystery Men" as a double feature. Got some work done on my website after that, and posted some of my old Phantom artwork on my art page. I expect some of it won't be working on Netscape as I haven't had a chance to tweak it yet, but I can send direct links to anyone who wants them. Need to do some more refining and so on the next weekend I have the time to sit down and do it. When that will be is anybody's guess.
Then I moved to yardwork and got a lot accomplished which made me feel good. I also discovered our asshole neighbors had tossed a cigarette but over the fence into our yard. I shudder to think what might have happened had that thing had even the tiniest ember left on it. Why would someone do something like that? You're at someone's house, a few feet from the door and you can't crush out your cigarette then take it inside to dispose of it? Or just leave it in *their* yard? No, you have to toss it into mine. Argh! Fuckers!
Sorry, just needed to get that out of my system. I'm better now.
So I end the weekend with a clean house, clean carpets, and a well cared for lawn. Not to mention tons of crafting and many very good meals. Not bad at all.
Oh, before I forget, did anyone else see this week's XMen Evolution episode? Aelf and I sat there with our jaws hanging open by the end of it. Wow that show takes some major risks, but damn is it ever good! And we both giggle a lot whenever Magneto gets lots of screentime as he's voiced by Christopher Judge (Teal'c from SG-1). This episode was particularly full of Egyptian imagery so we kept muttering, "Jaffa, kree!" intermittantly }:)
