ebonlock: (One of those days)
I think my day can be summarized by what I experienced in the first five minutes. I started toward the bedroom door and heard this weird buzzing. "What fresh hell is this?" I think before opening the door. I walk into the living room and see the cats' water fountain tipped over on the carpet. All over the carpet and the fountain, now empty, is buzzing like a nest of angry hornets. I bury my face in my hands momentarily knowing full well who is responsible, even though the fountain when full (which it was) weighs about as much as Hachi.

Never underestimate a determined cat.

So of course Kage is pleading with me to get her water right now and I'm running around trying to do my normal morning stuff and clean up the water mess and usual litter box messes, feed everyone, and get dressed. I finally threw my hands in the air and ran outside to get to work. I put it from my mind vainly hoping the water would've dried by the time I got home. After a trip to the pet store where I purchased yet another pet fountain (low to the ground, nothing for her to grip or knock over, fingers crossed) I came home to find the carpet still wet (sigh), litter all over the kitchen floor and, of course, vomit in my bedroom. So I ran around my 83 degree house cleaning up messes, putting down towels and weights to try to soak up some more water and fixing up the new fountain. Finally got that settled, everybody fed, and could gulp down some food myself.

Long story short I've got a spare pet fountain now if anybody's interested, I just can't use it with Hachi in the house I'm afraid.

On a positive note the cooling system has the temperature down to 76, comfy... And I finally got to sit down and watch "The Choir", a BBC series about a young, adorable and utterly overconfident choir master who's decided to create a choir to take to the equivalent of the Olympics at a sort of down and out school in England. The kids look like they walked right off the set of Harry Potter and the choir master looks like a younger David Tennent. He had to do some cuts today and it was just devastating to see the kids who didn't make it being utterly gutted. If you get BBC America I highly recommend it.

"Shut your pie hole, old man," sez Jon Stewart to Pat Robertson regarding the whole "Haitians made a pact with the devil so they totally deserve the earthquake" thing. You know Jon has done a lot to keep me sane over the past 8 years and he's the intelligent, witty gift that keeps on giving. Also handsome, did I mention handsome?

Where was I? Ah yes, if you've got enough cash to help out some really good groups to donate to are:

Doctors without Borders

The American Red Cross

OxFam

...amongst many, many more. The pictures and video I've seen from down there are just horrific. Tens of thousands of people dead, a city in rubble, it's just beyond the imagination. As if life there weren't bad enough already.

In other more positive news, on the home front Lola continues to pick random fights with Pye which is freaking him the fuck out. Hachi is managing to balance her destructive/messy tendencies with the innate cuteness that has kept kittens on this plane of existence for thousands of years. She cheerfully destroys the guest room, then runs up to me with the big hazel eyes and mews and purrs and I forgive her in spite of it all. Right now she's laying up against my thigh and randomly attacking the Flash ads on the side of the laptop screen. She's also stepped on several keys making my laptop do odd random things to which I generally reply, "Hey cut that ou-...how did you do that?"

I've discovered that most of the time I end up talking to her in the same beleaguered but entirely too kindly voice with which Luke Skywalker addressed Yoda before he realized who the hell he was talking to. "Don't do that..." I whine ineffectually while she presses on with whatever nutty little thing she's taken it into her head to do.

Tonight [livejournal.com profile] moonlightnrain and [livejournal.com profile] lizzzie_lou dropped by to return my steam cleaner...only instead of my steam cleaner they gave me a new one because the other one was "dirty". I just smiled and said ok. I just hope they continue to enjoy the benefits of a steam cleaner, I know I will. I'm hoping to bust the new one out this weekend for some work in the living room. I've decided not to even consider the guest room until Miss Hachi finds her new home. I try not to even look in there if I don't have to. It's just better that way.

So it turns out the problem is throttle related not the transmission, so yay, and it's even covered completely by my warranty so double-yay. On the boo side they won't have the part until Tuesday so I'm probably going to have to rent a car for the day but that's not a big issue, thankfully.

Also on the yay front both Hachi and Lola survived their first adoption fair intact and Hachi had some real interest. She was incredibly good and actually very patiently handled a bunch of kids petting her. Lola just hid her face in her bed and pretended nothing was happening and she was really at home in her bathroom and everything was fine. But Sharon, the lady who runs the Caly's Cats Feline Rescue says she got a really good adopter lined up for another cat, but the cat chose another family instead so she's wondering if Lola might be a good fit. She's an older woman with no other cats who's just looking for a nice lap cat. Given that right at the moment Lola is happily curled up in Aelf's lap I think it might be a good fit. It'd be a relief not to have to take her to another fair but we shall see. Right now I need to get her pic and write-up to Sharon so she can be posted on the website.

Keep your fingers crossed for us, ok?

I'm currently reminding myself that I love my cats.

I really do.

I in no way have contemplated murdering either Lola or Pye and burying their bodies in the backyard. Nope, not at all.

Really.

Despite the fact that Pye managed to climb up to the top of my shelving unit in the kitchen and knock down the catnip plant that had been sitting up there minding its own business since Saturday. He did this about 10:30 last night after I was in bed, of course. Dirt everywhere.

It took me a good 10 minutes after I heard the huge crash to figure out where it had come from and then what precisely it was. Pye, of course, was in the guest room by the time I got up doing his, "Wow that was a loud noise, huh Mom? Wonder what could've caused it."

Then somewhere in the wee hours of the morning Lola had a little litterbox incident and got poop and poopy footprints all over the master bathroom. This I discovered after getting no sleep due to serious digestive issues all night. Fortunately I didn't step in it, but I did spend some time on my hands and knees with anti-bacterial wipes then making sure her litterbox was all cleaned out just in case that was the cause.

Between that, the not feeling well/no sleep thing and the fact that it was pouring when I got up I decided to give myself the day off. I'll deal with the work repercussions tomorrow, for today I just want to get my house clean and make it through the day without committing feline homicide.

Huh, I'd begun to think my cat was the only one who had created (and frequently thoroughly enjoys) his own masturbatory toy, but this incredibly well-written and funny post proves me very wrong. And I know precisely what kind of purr she's talking about, it's the one that causes Aelf and I to exchange an embarassed glance whenever Pye busts into it.
