First and foremost I gotta' say the Retro Dome rocks, and watching Star Trek II and IV back to back was so much fun! Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tersa for finding out about it and suggesting it. And as we discussed last night, dear, this is the 10 Commandments mashup that I thought you'd enjoy:

And is it too soon to get at least a little excited about the thought of Health Care Reform actually passing? It all looks good right now but I've been hurt before...

Yeah, you probably guessed by now, but it's pretty much a lock. 224 votes on the rule means they can probably expect ~220 on the bill and on the recon package after.

Seriously, as somebody with two degrees in political science, it is my professional opinion that after tonight, when you talk about the greatest Speakers of the House - hell, the greatest female elected officials of all time anywhere - Pelosi's a #1 seed.

Care to place any wagers on what the GOP spin is going to be? Somehow, some way this is going to turn into a win, I just can't imagine how at this point.

Same as ever

Usual shit about "death panels" and "one-sixth of the economy" and "socialism" (which is good because "socialism" is a quick shortcut to determine whether you're attempting to converse with a mental defective). Plus the extra "passed in the dead of night" charge, since they managed to delay the vote until well after dark in DC.

However, they have one problem: the DC political media is not smart enough to understand things like policy and content. All they understand is the horse race - and since the bill passed, that must mean Obama won, which is the headline.

(I really hope I'm wrong about this, but I think it's going to take an Oklahoma City-type event or something similar before people start taking the tea-baggers seriously as unhinged extremists rather than the "colorful" voice of "Real America." There's enough incendiary rhetoric out there that somebody's going to act on it eventually.)

Agreed. Also just got a mass emailing from the Obama team thanking me for helping out with HCR. Smart move on his team's part to reach out to his supporters again though I can't understand why they weren't doing it all along...
