Jesus, am I the only one who didn't know that Steve Irwin was dead? Killed by, of all things, a stingray? Woah.

You must've missed my LJ posts. Crikey.

Yeah, it was a complete shock. It also inspired a lot of "stingray awareness" stories on the local news, seeing how we have tons of the critters living around here.

He's only been dead for 1 week, so wherever you've been, it's not been for too long.

I had to watch 4 fucking days of coverage of that wanker's death. I am rather surprised by the number of people who are sad about it, though.

Uhm, yes? Well, as far as I can see, practically everybody has posted about it.

There were some nasty things said about the guy, and maybe it's just the way I was raised, but I have a problem with vilifying the dead. I figure death is the final judgment.

But he did a lot of conservation awareness in a culture that's often more about beer and sex than anything else. I liked the guy, even though I thought he made some questionable judgment calls.

I don't think I'd like my life under that microscope.

Oh gosh - welcome to my world, where I'm usually THE last to know about anything ... it's kinda cozy down here isn't it? :) I would never have known about it if a couple of my LJ friends hadn't posted about it on their LJs. Oh yeah, and a woman at work has a couple of autographed pictures of him that she brought in to the office. Almost made me wish we hadn't canceled the cable lo these many moons ago, I'd forgotten he existed. And I feel kinda bad about that, I used to enjoy his show.

I happened to flip past Animal Planet who was doing this all night Steve-a-thon with this weird message about donating to some trust they'd created for him. I did an immediate WTF? and zoomed off to the source of all knowledge, Wikipedia. I know I was busy last week and am totally behind on journal reading and the news, but this just floored me.
I feel pretty bad for his wife and two little kids.

I heard in chem lab last Tuesday, of all places, and couldn't quite believe it at first. I always said the world wouldn't be the same without the wonderfully mad bastard, and it's not. o.O
