I really recommend taking a look at [livejournal.com profile] synaesthete7's well documented and incredibly well thought out essay on why she believes that the potion in the basin was, itself, a Horcrux:

Of course, it might be that Dumbledore expects Snape to have or be able to brew an antidote to the potion he drank out of the basin; this desperate urgency on Dumbledore's part in itself is not proof that the liquid was the horcrux and that he needs Snape to kill him in order to complete its destruction. But coupled with the argument Hagrid reported Snape and Dumbledore as having had earlier, in which Snape tried to get out of doing something Dumbledore had requested of him and Dumbledore was adamant that he must follow through, it sounds as though the two of them had a prior agreement of some sort that Snape, at least, found distasteful, and the idea that Dumbledore had appointed Snape to kill him once he drank the horcrux would certainly fit into this category.

When Dumbledore and Snape finally meet, Dumbledore's reaction is also suggestive. Seeing Snape burst onto the top of the tower, wand in hand, Dumbledore shows no fear or suspicion of him (which ties in with the frequently repeated idea that Dumbledore trusts Snape absolutely). He clearly does not fear that Snape has turned against him or will betray him. So why, then, does he say so softly, "Severus..." in what Harry describes as a pleading tone, and then "Severus... please...."? Harry sees Snape's face contorted with "revulsion and hatred", which he (of course) assumes is his attitude toward Dumbledore, but given the absolute nature of Dumbledore's trust in Snape, a trust whose basis he does not feel free to reveal to Harry or indeed anyone, but which he regards as beyond question (see pg. 513), is it not just as likely or more so that Snape's expression is one of revulsion and hatred at himself for having to kill Dumbledore in this way? After all, Harry has a very long history of misinterpreting people's expressions and tones of voice -- particularly where Snape is concerned -- and of assigning blame where it may or may not belong. As such his interpretation of the situation is suspect at best, and it may well be too hasty to leap to the obvious conclusion (as indeed everybody does, once Dumbledore is dead) that Snape was Ever So Evil all along, and only biding his chance to kill Dumbledore once he was helpless.

Go read the rest, this really does make an awful lot of sense. And of course now I need to go re-read the OotP stuff in Grimmauld Place to check out her comment about the locket. I'd totally missed that. I swear this series is like a six book puzzle along with being an incredibly intricate world with wonderful characters.

Oh, and did anyone else get kind of turned on by the deference all the DE's and even the big bad wolf showed Snape, or was it just me? Oh they were all his little bitches and after book after book in which Severus ends up seething and impotently shaking his fists at the Boy Wonder, Potter, I have to say it did my heart a lot of good.

Gods I'm glad we've got a movie to look forward to in November or I'd be going mad in anticipation of Book 7. I'm telling myself if I managed to last through LOTR, I can do this too, but I'm not sure I believe it. *sigh* Please, Jo, seclude yourself away for the next year or so, and finish the last book soon!

Dance class was good, though I'm not entirely convinced on this new direction Alyne's taking us in with the swords. I've never been a big fan of cane dancing and that's kind of where she's going with this. The visual of some people balancing and others hopping around them doesn't strike me as terribly, well, good. It strikes me as kind of silly. If we start looking like Morris Dancers I'm going to cry.

The double veil was good, though, and I think she's right about switching back to lame for this one. I even have the perfect set to match my costume already so no excuse to buy more (which is good 'cause I have no place to put them). Speaking of costumes I need to find the time to finish up my belt then add some doo-dads to my skirt and I'm pretty much finished. Doubt I'll get to it before this weekend as I want to hit class again on Thursday and I've got to do some cleaning tonight.

Did get another load of laundry done last night as well as my grocery shopping. I actually found this microwaveable vegetarian teriyaki bowl with only 15 fat calories! Now that's my kind of dinner. And the faux chicken stuff they used was quite yummy. I was clever enough to pick up two plus a few of the company's other meals to try out as well.

Finally got the cats' litterboxes cleaned out (they were long overdue), and tonight if I can vacuum and clean the bathroom I'll feel quite accomplished. Oh and I must do my abs and buns workouts too, yes, definitely.

Eh. I think I have to disagree that the potion itself was the Horcrux. The Snape/Dumbledore interaction could just as easily be explained by Dumbledore being damaged from the destruction of the ring, by his realization that Snape was more important to what they were doing than he was, and by the 'him or me' with Snape under the Umbreakable Vow. I think it's also unlikely because of the demonstration of Voldemort's prediliction for trophies: what's so special about some weird potion? I haven't read the entire essay, but unless she addressed that, I think the supposition is weak.

Yeah, in talking to [livejournal.com profile] ophidiae Monday night, I came to the realization that, really, I need to sit down and re-read all six books in order again, *with a notebook* to take notes as I go. :)

Her Ravenclaw theory actually addresses that and explains how Regulus could've managed to switch the lockets as well.

In that case, I will see about reading it sometime when I am not being harried at work. :}

What is the brand on that teriyaki bowl. Seeds of Change? I'm still smitten with Amy's, though you do have to be careful with the fat grams on their stuff. Quorn makes some lovely stir-fry-in-a-bag meals, but those are make at home and divvy up into plasticware.

Also, your planned evening sounds just about like mine. :) Add some HP re-reading and maybe veiwing a Netflix or some more WotW.

Me too! Their vegetable lasagna is great and their thai noodles and the chili and cornbread. Damn, they make vege eating so easy and tasty and cheap.
