I feel a bit like a cheerleader today but I expect I'll be pestering everyone who walks into the office with the question, "You've voted, right?" I'd love to see my comments section fill up with folks chiming in after they vote, if you've got details about how many people were in line or how long a wait, please add 'em! Now if only I had some pom-poms.

BTW, as promised, [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf here's the icon I was talking about:

:)

I don't know how I'm going to focus at work today but I'm going to try, and I'm going to hold tight to my faith. After months of signing petitions, walking in marches, making donations, rabidly combing the internet for news and posting too damn much (yeah, I know, all of you on my political sublist are probably rolling your eyes and laughing, thanks for hanging in there through it) there's little else to be done but wait and see. In the meantime I'm glad I've got class and work to keep me occupied today.

Oh, I also have a new phone, an LG 4015 which is just too HAWT for words, but oh do I ever need better ringtones and a more personalized wallpaper. The tropical ones are ok but I'd much rather have a Hobbit or Remus on there gazing up at me every day. It's working basically today so I'll sit down and play with the personalization later.

And I got the giant project of DOOM done last night. Now I just need to wrap the sucker and that's that. I may do a quick kid's afghan for a coworker before I launch into a boucle afghan for myself, but I'm setting aside the sewing kit for a while and I cannot tell you how happy that makes me.

Nope - only a couple of people there, but there was a steady trickle of people - as one walked out, someone else would walk in.

Double-yay as you're in a swing state! Were the ballots easier to use this time? I swear Florida is going to give me night-sweats until it's declared one way or the other.

Well, the one I used was extremely simple, and the election official made sure to explain how it all worked, Just In Case.

I'm still worried, mind, but so far early poll results show Kerry in the lead. Here's hoping it stays that way.

[livejournal.com profile] enuffistoomuch and I were so nervous about exercising our right...we got up early and voted on our way into work this morning! We had a bit of line in front of us (about 5 people) and a bit behind us (about 6 people) I actually wasn't on the list! You were still listed, but for some reason I was axed from the official list...no worries I just had to do it the old fashioned way. Wish they had been giving out stickers!

Good for you both, so are you writing from work and is the computer at home still laid up?

I voted! woo! I got to use the new electronic system and it was pretty cool. I didn't have to wait very long, even though I got there at 8:30 (I thought there'd be a rush at that time). no matter the outcome, I'm proud to be an American today.

Sweet! No problem with the machines in your area then? That's what I like to hear. And I know what you mean, I felt intensely patriotic as I filled in my absentee ballot, like I'd helped make a change for the better. And in all the years I've been voting this is the one I've felt the most strongly about, and the most like I have a real power to make a difference, you know?

16 years ago on this day I voted for Clinton. I was soooo excited that day and even moreso as I watched the returns that night. tonight I have to work until 10pm or so, I won't get to watch until later. I'm praying that Kerry will have a hefty lead by the time I get to a television.

I voted! I got there a little after 8:30, and probably had to stand in line about 15 minutes. Having to stand in line made me feel good because the polling place was _empty_ last election and this time I had to wait.

Weird, though I bet in this area a lot of people went absentee if for no other reason than that they didn't trust the damn machines. I know it was a deciding factor for me.

Hey that's a pretty good turnout, here's hoping the numbers stay up, up, up! BTW, you have any free time this weekend? I am suddenly without plans and have my big project done. :)

Hanging out! Team America movie! Stuff! Things!

(I am finding myself as jittery as if I'd just drunk a venti double-espresso drink. Hmm. Starbuck's. I think I may have to get one after work.)

Sweet, I'd be up for a movie or a rental though I have no idea what's even out right now. I'll go check tomorrow, I'm too distracted to be able to focus on anything but the election today :)

Would Friday night work? I *finally* heard back from [livejournal.com profile] shadowhwk about going up this weekend to visit her (her father passed away last month and I want to see her).

As for movies:
I still have the Behind the Planet of the Apes DVD from Netflix, and I went out and bought the Special Edition Mulan (Disney) over the weekend. Or some other theater or rental would be cool, too, there are too many movies I haven't seen yet!

I voted by absentee ballot a couple of weeks ago. My mom, who is a registered Republican, voted this morning, exactly the same way I did, on every issue in fact. I don't know why she doesn't just switch to Democrat. Mom said there was only one person in line ahead of her; she got there around 10:15 a.m. Since this is a relatively small town, I'll assume a lot of people either went before work or will go after work. Oh, my Dad has been a lifelong Republican, but he hates Bush, so he's voting Kerry. Yay Dad!

I just talked to Dad. He confirmed that, of course, Mary voted for Kerry. Dad is not, in fact, voting for Kerry so much as against Bush. He votes independently, but is still a registered Republican because he wants to "see what kind of crap they put out there". I've never heard him this angry about an election. Hm, so that's one more senior citizen (early 80s) in a high income tax bracket that doesn't want Bush to stay in power. Verrrrrry interesting.

Been there, touchscreened that. And it was only half a block from home.

Apparently, they had 120 people by 9:30, which was *way* more than they expected by that time.

According to Pandagon (http://www.pandagon.net/), the following comes from CNN:

Ohio - African American precincts are performing at 106% what we expected, based on historical numbers. Hispanic precincts are at 144% what we expected. Precincts that went for Gore are turning out 8% higher then those that went Bush in 2000. Democratic base precincts are performing 15% higher than GOP base precincts.

Florida - Dem base precincts are performing 14% better than Bush base precincts. In precincts that went for Gore, they are doing 6% better than those that went for Bush. African American precincts at 109%, Hispanic precincts at 106%.

Pennsylvania - African American precincts at 102% of expectations, Hispanics at 136% of expectations. The Gore precincts are doing 4 percent better than bush precincts.

Michigan- Democratic base precincts are 8% better than GOP base states. Gore precincts are 5% better than Bush.

And the exit polling so far:
K/B

AZ 45-55
CO 48-51
LA 42-57
PA 60-40
OH 52-48
FL 51-48
MICH 51-47
NM 50-48
MINN 58-40
WISC 52-43
IOWA 49-49
NH 57-41

As one of the commentors on the site said, I want to make sweet, sweet love to those numbers....

Fantastic! I don't generally put too much stock in exit polls but the numbers are looking awfully good right now. And the Freepers are really starting to sweat, which makes me deeply, deeply happy.

I am really too upset about the whole thing this morning. How the hell could we, as a country, let this happen???? I can only hold out some slim hope that Ohio goes our way, but at this point I am not overly optimistic.

And sadly now it looks like we'll never know if we could have taken it. All I can say is, I and others like me did everything in our power to make a change and for the next four years we can honestly say, "You broke it, you fix it."

I actually did it hours ago, wandering around campus until I found the polling place (confusion over location may have been why it wasn't too busy). No line, but all the stations were full. And we used the fill-in-with-marker ballots, so there's a paper trail, which is good.
