I've found myself stumbling back into X-Files fandom quite accidentally lately. I started catching an episode here and there then realizing that by the power of TiVo I could have all of my faves without shelling out the cash for the boxed sets (and bunches of episodes I didn't give a shit about). Woo! Also spent some serious time tracking down a few of my all time favorite fics, including:

Oklahoma by Livengoo & Amperage- arguably the best X-Files fic ever written, it's actually set before the series starts. Fox Mulder is still working with the Behavioral Science Unit profiling killers. He's sent to Oklahoma to track down a "baby butcher" and the case slowly begins to unravel his mind. Beautiful, haunting, and steeped in a gritty hyper-reality that'll stay with you for years to come.

Etched by Sean Smith- Take Mulder and Scully, throw them, a CIA agent and a group of Navy Seals on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, throw in the vicious creatures from the Aliens movies, and let the fun begin. If you loved the action and suspense of Aliens you'll love this story, it's fast-paced, intense and pays proper homage to both the tv series and the movies.

Hmm, I think I need an X-Files icon...

I...uh...wow:

The folks at Redstate.com have hit the crackpipe early and hard it would seem, as they dare to dream of a Rumsfeld/Bolton ticket in '08. Yes, you read that correctly.

The fundamental issue here is one of competence. Both Mr. Rumsfeld and Mr. Bolton are enormously accomplished individuals....

****

And then there's [Rumsfeld's] most recent performance as Secretary of Defense. Rather than running away from this record, how about running on it? How about trumpeting the military success of the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan...?

****

Neither man is particularly warm and fuzzy -- although I would pay good money to see either on Oprah.

****

I want the President and Vice President who are best qualified to protect us from the threat of Islamic jihad and to defend our global position. Mr. Rumsfeld and Mr. Bolton have been consistently demonstrating by word and deed not just for a few months or years but for decades that they would do just that.

****

Speaking of the VP, there's the moustache. That's facial hair with attitude. It tells you something about the man.

****

Mr. Rumsfeld and Mr. Bolton can grab the cameras and rivet public attention -- and they don’t have to dress in spandex or make a movie to get someone to show up with a microphone.

****

I have to wonder from how many the notion of a R-B in '08 ticket elicits a response of "I wish." Well, it seems to me that if we want to win this thing, we have to stop wishing, shake off the cobwebs and focus on what really matters. Do we have to compromise?

What more can one say?
