No internet for me
Jul. 14th, 2004 08:14 amWell I have cable, which is nice, but no internet. Why not, you ask? It seems that Comcast's cable modem doesn't like Win 98 and USB connectors. Might this not have been something that should have appeared in some of the copious literature provided to me with the self install kit? You'd think so, wouldn't you? Sadly, you'd be mistaken.
I put on CoS while futzing with the computer and found myself skipping through entire sequences and just watching selected scenes. So I pretty much still don't like the second HP film. Though the Snape and Lockhart interactions are classic. And I did like a few of the outtakes, but the end still grates on my nerves something fierce. Compared to the third film this one was really quite pathetic.
Hmm, I may need to go see PoA again soon...
Finally gave up on the computer after talking to their technical service (and discovering that my account was apparently all screwed up in their database- shocked, I am). His only advice to me was to pick up an ethernet card and that should fix all the problems. I think he repeated that they were only about $10 at Best Buy at least 3 or 4 times. I'll pick one up and give it a try, but I'm hanging onto the receipt 'cause if it doesn't work I'll cancel the service and probably go with SBC. Bah.
Oh and did I mention that the technician showed up 15 minutes early and called while I was still at work? Yeah, that was a great fun. I left work early and zoomed home only to see that he was gone and had reported that I wasn't at home to his dispatcher (who called me) despite the fact that I'd told him I'd be there in 10 minutes. He finally showed back up around 4:30, so I could've finished my day and taken my time getting home after all. Gah.
I feel bad about skipping lunch and leaving early every day so far this week, but dammit I've got so much shit to do. Hell, if I were smart I'd just take a day off next week, but I've never been accused of being all that smart, so...
Haven't even seriously started the cleaning at the house, but I hope to get a bit done tonight when I swing by (after loading up my car again). If I can call my bedroom "done" I'll be happy. Happier still if I can get my bathroom mostly done as well. They're two rooms that shouldn't get a lot of traffic, even though we are moving Aelf's stuff on Saturday. So once they're done they should stay done.
I also want to try to swing by OSH and the grocery store tonight (I'm going to be down in SC anyway so I might as well go to Cosentino's I figure) so that I can have a little bit more in my fridge than water and Diet Dr. Pepper. I'll worry about bringing my plants over this weekend I think. Oh and
tersa if you're still game to take some of them I'd be very happy to pass them on to you Saturday.
I'm feeling so rushed and stressed this week, like there's just no time to get anything accomplished. I know I've made a lot of headway on unpacking (oh and my new Bissell with a hepa filter rocks!) but there's still so much to do. And the cats were rather rambunctious last night so I'm running on little sleep (again). It has been nice, though, to wake up at night and find Pye laying curled up against me. I sometimes can't believe this was the same little cat I thought would never be totally comfortable around humans.
And if Kage doesn't stop scaling boxes in the middle of the night I'm getting a squirt gun. See how she likes that.
