Too much stuff
Jul. 2nd, 2004 08:18 amSo after the check up this afternoon and a quick stop to drop some stuff off at the new place, I'm taking tonight off. Aelf and I are going to try to plow through as many of the DS9 special features as we possibly can. This is likely our last weekend in the house together, so we don't have much of a choice about that. I suspect I'm too stressed and overwhelmed with moving stuff to feel melancholy about leaving this part of my life and moving on to a new one, it'll probably hit me at the end of the month when everything is done.
Bah, anyway, it looks like I may have my movers all worked out and scheduled for next Friday though I'm not exactly sure when yet, need to check on that. I'm definitely going to get everything out into the garage and ready for them to cart away. The less time it takes the less I have to pay, and I am determined that the entire thing, plus drive time, take less than two hours. Given how little they have to transport I can't imagine it would take more than that.
The nice thing about moving early is that I can decide which items will fit in the new place and which won't, and plan for the yardsale accordingly. Lots of stuff is going to have to go, though, I know this. The worst will be getting rid of my plants, most of which I just don't have space for *sigh* I've got a great tub filled with jasmine and two kinds of mint (chocolate and orange) that is up for grabs, and my two berry bushes (raspberry and blackberry), and much as it pains me, my honeysuckle will undoubtedly have to find a new home as well *sob* My roses, oregano/lime thyme, and peppermint I'm keeping, dammit. I'll find a spot for them somewhere. But I think my resurrected begonia will need a new mommy. I brought that little plant back from the brink of death and now it's happily blooming white and red, but I just don't know that I'll have space for it.
A year is going to seem a whole lot longer without space to grow my beloved plants.
Enough moping. I got to go nutty at Bed, Bath & Beyond last night with a gift card from my parents for my birthday. Fortunately I'd noted that the showerhead at the new place is complete crap so I got myself an uber-cool one, plus some new pots and pans, some cute new silverware in this great holder, and then the little stuff that just make life a little more bearable. I need to get some kitty-related stuff for the new place and then I should be all set. I was going to get them new litterboxes, but figured that might be asking for trouble. They're going to need some familiar stuff around to settle in at the new place, and their boxes and food dishes should remain a common thread at least for the present.
Noted last night that my carpets are a sort of ugly gray/brown, not too far from the color of cat puke, so I'm pretty much golden on that front. Sad that I'm happy to have cat-vomit-colored carpeting, but true.
