I couldn't get away
Apr. 21st, 2004 08:54 amWoke up with "Every Day I Write the Book" stuck in my head, then the 80's at 8 played "And I Ran" so now it's Flock of Seagulls trapped in my noggin. Ugh.
Kitty update: Well it seems the little tyke is truly gone as both Aelf and I canvassed the neighborhood we last saw him in and no kitty to be found. *sigh* I just really hope I was wrong about it being sick, but in this case I don't believe I am. Maybe it'll still turn up at Maylne's place and they can catch it yet. I think I'll keep hoping that for a while.
It was nice to come home and be greeted by Pye in one of his clingy "love me" moods. I felt a little better that at least I'd been able to save him from a similar fate. I curled up on the couch to work on bills and watch "The Medici" on PBS. Pye sat quietly on my lap with a blissful look on his face. After a few skritches he seemed happy just to lie there and let me do my work.
Unfortunately I got up to go do some digging around for a document I needed and being my normal graceless self, knocked over a glass frame and caught my thumb on the pointy edge. My right thumb pad got split quite nicely. Swearing up a storm I cleaned it up and applied two coats of Nu Skin. It bled right through. So I wiped away as much of the blood as possible when it seeped through then stuck a band aid over it. I've since spent my time learning how to function without the use of my right thumb. It's been interesting (particularly buttoning up my shirt this morning), rather like when I first used chopsticks. Still fumbling a bit, but at least it's not effecting my typing.
Really enjoyed the first part of "The Medici", but then I'm a sucker for well done historical shows. And getting to see a re-inactment of the building of the Duomo and the creation of some of the most important works of art in the history of mankind practically made my toes curl. Although at the end Savanarolla showed up doing his mad monk "No fun for anybody because GOD wants it that way!" schtick and I knew I should change the channel. But I was being stubborn, so did burst into tears when they showed Botticelli throwing some of his work onto the Bonfire of the Vanities. I know it's silly to react that way over something that happened hundreds of years ago, but the idea that he was forced to destroy some of his works that we will never have the chance to see...
*sigh*
Anyway, it was a very good reminder about what happens when you let Christian zealots have too much power. Or any power really. Sign me up for secular rule every time.
