For Clive!
Mar. 11th, 2004 08:38 amAelf, this one's for you. Mmm, fly boys!
Heh. Got through four more episodes of DS9 last night, the incredible two-parter "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost" was rather disturbingly topical given the events in our own country since 2001. It's amazing how watching these episodes now has heightened my responses to them.
Switching from politics to the personal, "Crossfire" hit me even harder than it had originally way back when. The pain Odo goes through in that episode made much more sense to me, and made me want to protect him even more. Noting that Aelf got thoroughly indignant on his behalf as well was deeply gratifying. Glad to know I'm not alone on that one.
And we finished with "Return to Grace", which was interesting, but not a big favorite of mine. It does introduce a new character to the show and start a chain of events that will impact the entire series so it's important, and necessary to the story. Still...not one I'd choose to watch just for its own sake.
I'd forgotten that in "Paradise Lost" Sisko is reading through a list of names of Starfleet officers and says what sounds suspiciously like my own last name. I'd love to read a transcript of that ep to see if it is actually spelled the same. It'd be nice to think my people ended up in Starfleet, though :)
In other news we met with our realtors regarding house issues. Their response was pretty much what we'd expected, "Who cares?" Fine, they want to adopt a "What, me worry?" attitude, that's cool. But we've done our duty as renters and notified them regarding all the known issues in the house. We've also emailed them a list of these issues and both Aelf and I have kept a copy. We are so not getting screwed out of the security deposit, just not going to happen. I'm pretty sure we're going to have at least a mild fight on our hands when it comes time to leave the place and I want to make sure I've got plenty of ammo. Still have the original pics we took of the place before we moved in as well, so that should help too.
My favorite part was when we showed them the windowsills and B- shrugged it off as wood rot from moisture getting in. My first thought was, "Then wouldn't it be prudent to replace the windows with ones that would stop that from happening?" His response, however, was to say they'd just replace the window sills. Right. Sure. Whatever.
I just keep telling myself we'll be gone soon, and it'll be someone else's problem.
Oh and apparently that branch on the evil pseudo-peach tree that was growing into the ground was B-'s idea of a great way to avoid having to prune it. He purposely twisted the thing around that way. I just kind of stared at him. I think I did that a lot last night.
