Hang the dj!
Mar. 12th, 2004 08:24 amOr better still, the gods damned television executives who keep taking fantastic foreign series and miniseries and Americanizing them. As if "Kingdom Hospital" weren't bad enough, I mean I really enjoyed "The Kingdom" and thought it was one of the spookiest things I'd ever seen, but I had no real emotional attachment to it. However, Touching Evil with the incredibly talented (and tasty) Robson Green is another matter entirely. I saw an ad for the American version and my head nearly exploded. And it's a USA Network production...oh the humanity...
I'm going to try to convince myself that it's all just a bad dream, and I'm going to buy the original versions. But gods, didn't anybody learn anything from "Red Dwarf" and "Coupling"? Apparently not.
Gah!
Took a night off from DS9 and watched parts of an episode of "Tripping the Rift", which I think is supposed to be funny. I guess if you're deeply into CGI flopping mammaries it might be worth tuning in for, but otherwise I think you may want to give it a pass. Then watched "Mad Mad House" and still found myself enjoying it. The "witch" Fiona did a "ceremony" last night that left me scratching my head a bit, but at least it was close enough to your standard Gardenerian fare to be believable. The sword schtick was a bit over the top (indeed I've only ever heard of it being used in such a way in intiation rituals), and why she chose to call out an invocation at the end of the ceremony was rather beyond me. And oh gods that outfit, I could almost see the Old Ones wincing and sighing, "Oh, honey, no."
Still it's entertaining enough, even though I pretty much loathe all of the contestants on it except the surprisingly laid back "mom" Bonnie. I've decided she should win the money, and I hope the Alts go in that direction, it would rock. I rather doubt it, though, as I'm pretty sure the producers aren't going to think she's quite "dramatic" enough to carry the show in the final few weeks. Personally I'd tune in to watch Avocado run around in the buff, but that's just me.
Nice quiet weekend ahead, where I'm hoping to scrape together enough time to actually get some yardwork done. Tonight an oil change and hopefully mowing the backyard. Also getting a box packed up for shipment back east, and with any luck some more DS9. Tomorrow I'm donating blood and helping co-run our second swapmeet. Sunday the front yard gets weedwhacked and the trees and bushes pruned in both. I took enough rosemary off the back bush last night to make a wreath and I've barely even started the serious work on it. If anybody has any use for the stuff please let me know. I should have a metric ass-load of it this weekend.
