"The Colbert Report" nearly slaughtered me on the last episode of the "Daily Show". Though I'm left wondering if Brendan Frasier is actually as dim as he came off when talking to Jon Stewart, or if he was playing it up for laughs. His straight-faced explanation of his role in "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" had me howling, but Jon's eventual, "Don't you have an agent?" killed me. Gods know I've been wondering the same thing regarding everyone I saw appearing in what looks to be a train wreck of a film.

Anyway, busy weekend with more gift wrapping and crafting on Friday evening. [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf's birthday stuff is taken care of, as is pretty much everything else I've got my hands on at this point. Got to show off the mountain o' gifts on Saturday and both [livejournal.com profile] tersa and L- were mighty impressed. I felt quite smug.

Lots of errands and chores on Saturday, but it felt good to get it all done and out of the way early. Met L- and [livejournal.com profile] tersa for dinner in SJ at The Vegetarian House, which was superb. I highly recommend it for a *huge* selection (and a good portion of that is vegan too), fantastic service and amazingly relaxing atmosphere. It is also one of the kookiest places I've ever been as it's run by and for a small religious group (cult might be the more accurate term) dedicated to a Supreme Master who, at one point in her illustrious career, went with a really bad blonde dye job. Anyway, they have a selection of Chinese and (oddly enough) Italian food, with Mexican desserts. The Supreme Master seems to have very ecclectic tastes, I can dig that. Though the mannequins dressed in her former clothing was a bit...creepy. They also have a freezer of gluten "meats" that they use in their dishes, which you can buy seperately to take home and cook yourself. I may have to swing by there some weekend and do a bit of shopping before my folks get out here.

The hockey game was cool, though only really fun in the third period. The seats were great. L- scored us two down in section 127, the closest I'd ever been to the ice. It was fun to watch the game with an actual goalie sitting next to me, his commentary during defensive breakdowns was quite enlightening, and made me giggle a lot. After the game we met up with [livejournal.com profile] tersa once more and got seats about 6 rows from the ice for the lacrosse game. Watching them convert it into a lacrosse field was interesting, though it took much longer than they'd thought. Still, the place was pretty packed (about 11,000 folks stayed so the lower bowl was pretty full), and the crowd seemed to be eating it up. It came as a revelation to them just how violent this sport is. You could hear the gasps when players routinely whacked one another quite hard (and without a lot of protective gear) with their sticks. It's a gruelling game, and the atheletes were all in absolutely incredible health. And the calves on those guys...

Ahem, anyway, our first goalie was totally on fire and stopping balls left and right. The poor Anaheim goalie was having a bit more trouble. Though his moment of shame came in the second quarter, when he was right in front of us. He stops the balls, picks it up in his stick, is trying to decide who to lob it to, then drops it and it rolls in the goal. He actually scored a goal for us. The audience just about lost it and the poor guy looked like he wanted to crawl under a rock and die. It was great to see a San Jose team trounce another, and made us all feel much better after the tie Sharks game.

We ended up getting home after one a.m. at which point I collapsed and slept rather fitfully and poorly. Tried to get up around 11:30 and ended up feeling progressively worse, so I did the sensible thing and turned right back around and went back to bed. Slept until around 4 in the afternoon and felt 100% better. It was nice to look at myself in the mirror and not see huge dark circles around my eyes. Of course it screwed with my sleep last night, but even with the little cat naps I got it seems to be enough, at least for today. I figure after a nice hard workout tonight I'll crash quite soundly.
