ebonlock: (Snakes on a Dark Lord)
So I didn't get around to talking about the new Cirque show we saw in Vegas, "Love". I think if I had to summarize my reaction briefly it would be this, if you're a Cirque fan you probably won't like it, but if you're a Beatles fan you'll be in 7th heaven. There really wasn't much in the way of acrobatics in the show, though a great deal of dancing and OMG the music. They had this one set that started with "Drive my Car" and then mixed in several of the older ones which escape me at the moment, but it was a phenomenal mix. I really hope they release the soundtrack for this show, but I'm not sure they will as I'm sure it would prove to be a legal nightmare for them if they did. Who even owns to the rights to the music at this point?

Anyway, some of the highlights for me were "Octopus' Garden" with the amazing puppets and dangling jellyfish figures; "Within You, Without You" with this huge parachute that covered the entire lower audience and was undoubtedly a terrifically different experience for both sets of spectators, and the "Abbey Road" sequence with entire dialogues assembled from various interviews, films, etc.

It was nice to be sitting next to a guy for whom this show was obviously the equivalent of a religious pilgrimmage. I kept glancing over during the show and noticing him utterly lost in the music. I expect my mom would react in very much the same way. Which reminds me I need to send off her package of "Love" goodies ASAP.

Oh, and on an unrelated subject, my phone doesn't seem to want to hold a charge at the moment...not sure why all of a sudden, but it's very unhappy. So if anyone needs to reach me I recommend either emailing or calling my work number until I can get this sorted.
