Stray kitty pic behind the cut... )
Lola's my big idea so far as I've had "Whatever Lola Wants" stuck in my head for days, but other suggestions are welcome. Note that this little lady has a Pye-sized mouth and attitude but is a great deal more lady-like and well mannered. All suggestions welcome.

Ok so yesterday I called the vet and talked to my favorite tech, Chris, who said if I could catch the kitty I could bring her in and they'd spay her on Saturday if she needed it. So I skipped class and ran home to find her splayed out on my front porch waiting for me to show up and give her some dinner.

I opened up some tuna and fed my two kids before taking the kitty kennel out with some tuna inside. She got about halfway in and I gave her a good push and slammed the door shut behind her. She was not happy to say the least. There was some growling and then the yowling started...and kept going until I got her to the vet. Chris got her out and noted that she was a very good looking little girl. Even after shaving her belly neither he nor Dr. G- could be sure whether she'd been spayed or not. They mentioned that there was a program in Santa Clara County to spay strays for $25 so we agreed to do it the next day. I told them to do the works, including test her for feline leukemia, give her a rabies shot and flea treatment. She was an absolute doll during the exam, and while she wasn't chipped clearly someone was looking after her for a while. The vet commented that her ears weren't nicked so she wasn't spayed as a stray, he said he'd have to do so...gave me a significant look, then added, "Unless you're keeping her." I commented that I would at least be fostering her for the time being. Chris offered to use a free Frontline sample on her for the fleas as he found flea dirt on her.

I picked up J- from the airport shortly after that and we headed back to my place to chat and eat some pizza. We got caught up before we called it a night and passed out. This morning I was up and about to get supplies at the pet store as I'll have 3 mouths to feed now. Then J- and I did some grocery shopping and just kicked back for the better part of the day. Finally I headed to the vets to get the latest cat out of hock. Turns out the little one had been spayed already, which they discovered after she'd been sedated. That did give them the chance to take her blood for testing, clip her claws and fully flea comb her. Chris said he'd only found 3 fleas so the Frontline should take care of the problem completely.

They also noted she'd been really constipated (probably from the dehydration, poor baby) and after a bowel movement there was a bit of blood so she's now on antibiotics as well. Then they knocked $100 off the bill because I'm such a good repeat customer, and they're really cool. I noticed they'd written down 4 as her age and I asked Chris about it, he apologized and corrected the record, she's only 18 months, which was about what I figured.

I brought her home and set her up in my master bath with a bed and bowl of water. She wobbled out of the carrier, eyes blown, and still drugged out of her gourd. She's been as good as gold since then. Even though I wasn't technically supposed to feed her anything until tomorrow morning she was begging so pitifully I had to give her something and I'll probably put a little hard food out for her in a bit as well.

I'm going to keep her isolated and give her a chance to acclimate for a while, feed her up and get some skin and muscle on her bony little body, and clean her up. Then I'll post about her on Criagslist and see if anybody recognizes her. I'll put the word out here in the neighborhood to see if anybody knows her. In the meantime Pye and Kage don't seem too upset by her presence so we'll see how it goes.

At the moment I'm toying with names for her as I can't keep calling "Kitty". The forerunner at the moment is "Lola" though I'm not entirely sure why. I'll try to post a picture of her to see what you guys think.
