ebonlock: (One of those days)
I had a busy, busy day at work wherein I surpassed my rather lofty efficiency goals and aided a coworker not once but twice on the same project while still finishing up all my work and attending a departmental meeting. At said meeting I presented several ideas for upcoming ads that were very well received. I left on time and stopped at the grocery store to grab some food as supplies were running low, then came home to discover that [livejournal.com profile] tersa's housewarming gift had finally arrived. I managed to find her a black raspberry plant which just happened to ship in September, so perfect timing really. I dropped that off and brought my groceries inside...

Ok where do I begin? With the fact that Pye had apparently power vomited from the top of the cat condo all over the kitchen floor, or perhaps the ant invasion that had discovered said vomit and said, "Yum!" Or maybe when I gazed heavenward for strength only to discover the ceiling covered in little pantry moth larva.

Oh yes, it turned into one of those days right quick.

Being a sensible soul I put the tv on Fellowship of the Ring and happily quoted away as I got the groceries unpacked and the cats fed. Then after eating a quick bite myself I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. First the vomit got cleaned up, much to the dismay of the ants. Then out came the Swiffer and the little larva rained down from the ceiling and were swept up onto a handy envelope and given a one-way trip outside to fend for themselves. A few of the unfortunate larva landed too near the ants, who decided if they couldn't have vomit a larva would be a fine consolation prize. I paused in my movie quotes to hum "The Circle of Life".

Once the floor was cleaned up I basically turned the pantry into Mordor, a cold, barren lifeless place completely pantry moth unfriendly. It required the loss of a great deal of the food in it, but as they'd contaminated a good deal of it (through my own laxity, alas) it had to go. By the time that job was finished the ants had made off with their larva booty and all returned to the nest save a few random scouts that were easy enough to ignore.

It's taken me about two hours to get everything settled and a load of laundry in, but it's done, it's finished, and all the remaining food is sealed in plastic bags. I may pick up some canned goods as they bloody well can't get into those and nothing else that won't go in the fridge or freezer, at least until I can be sure they're all gone for good this time.
