OMG Sherlock fanfic has swallowed my soul, seriously, it's good if I can remember to do things like laundry and dishes. The worst thing is I think the more I read the more intimidated I get about being able to write myself. I mean I used to be pretty good but now I look at things I produce and I hate everything I produce. I'm locked up with both writer's block and artist's block and it's really, really annoying.

Especially since I have an upcoming deadline to make :(

Any suggestions for getting past said blocks would be very welcome.

I owe you email, but I've been brain dead all weekend. Soon, I promise.

What I will say now is this: Don't get discouraged about your writing. I know how easy it is, especially when you read something that knocks your socks off. We all do this at one point or another.

If you're wound up tight worrying that your work isn't perfect, then give yourself permission to write crap. Worry about how it sounds later; the important part is to get words on the page. When it's done, then you can go back and shine it up all pretty.

I think the Sherlock (2010) TV series canon is full of such intensely well written quick banter it is incredibly intimidating.

~hugs~

My $0.02 is to just use brainstorming type rules of just write stuff and not try to edit.

You know the answer to that: write (or draw) even though it's crap. It won't get better unless you practice.

Milton Erickson was a brilliant psychiatrist who was able to cure people of things like agrophobia in four visits or less. He said that there really isn't such a thing as a block. He once cured a man of terror of elevators by having a sexy girl stand in for the elevator operator and hit on the man. The man was so flustered that his desire to complete the elevator ride overwhelmed his fear.

Just write, even if it's twenty pages about how you don't want to write anything.
