Since I had the day off I treated myself to a movie this afternoon, I'd been wanting to see "Young Adult" mostly for Patton Oswalt and I'm glad I did. It's not a feel good film by any stretch of the imagination, quite the opposite in fact. Think slow motion train wreck that actually manages to make you feel kind of bad for one of the most reprehensible human beings you're likely to see portrayed on the big screen. Kudos to Charlize Theron for having the stones to take on the role and do a damn fine job with it. Big kudos to Patton for making Matt both cynically hilarious and heartbreakingly adorable at the same time. I do wonder how much he got to ad lib in the role.
It's not so much a "Ha, ha" comedy, more a wry chuckle or an amused groan kind of flick. Still I liked it and I'd give it two thumbs up.
