Again long time no post, but with the holidays and oral surgery yesterday life has been a bit hectic. After three hours of having my jaw alternately chiseled and drilled (and I'm not even exaggerating here) yesterday I've been amusing myself with way too much fanfic and fanvids. Mostly Person of Interest, which has exploded since the mid-season finale. Oh the angsty hurt/comfort fic that one inspired is legion, seriously, new stories pop up almost hourly. Not that I mind, though I tend to prefer Finch on the "hurt" side of that equation.

And then on the other side of the fandom spectrum I've been inhaling Walking Dead fic and vids as that fandom likewise explodes with Daryl love. This doesn't surprise me as the character is unutterably awesome. Who wouldn't love the roughest of rough trade who also happens to have a heart of gold? I've also been drawn into Daryl/Glenn fandom almost despite myself. It doesn't help when stories this good get posted in the fandom, certain pairings are good, certain pairings make sense, and some are just hot...this one's all three and then some.

Now I really need to take some antibiotics and hit the hay. Hope everyone has a lovely holiday!

First up, {{{sympathies}}} on the dental surgery. That is all kinds of suck. I hope you're feeling better now!

Second, eeeeeeee! You're watching Person of Interest! I am so in love with that show, I cannot even describe it. Have you found any good fic? I haven't really had a chance to look, so any recs would be most appreciated.

Finally, thank you for my solstice goodies! WHERE did you find the jasmine tea? I have been searching for that for-freaking-ever. The print has been added to the stack of things I'm taking to Slade to have framed next week, though I'm not sure yet where I'm going to hang it. And the tee shirt is all kinds of awesome. *hugs* Thank you again!

So maybe y'all can tell me--what's up with PoI? The previews looked like "We have a bunch of names that we know are going to be bad guys at some point. We have to stop them."
And that felt uncomfortable in the whole "prior restraint" thing, so I passed.

It's not supposed to be comfortable, love.

The idea behind the show is this: There is a machine that was built for the government to help prevent terrorism. But it's a machine, so it sees all potential violent crime. Since the government only cares about the terrorists, the machine deletes the list of "irrelevant" crimes every night at midnight.

Most of the names (actually social security numbers) on the irrelevant list are potential victims. Mr. Finch, the he man who built the machine, wants to help them. He hires Mr. Reese, an ex-CIA spook to be his partner. Together, they fight crime.

The problem? Not all of the numbers the machine gives them turn out to be victims. Some of them are perpetrators, and they have no way of knowing which is which ahead of time. And even then, not all of the criminals are evil. The whole show is about shades of grey, which is a large part of why I love it.

Ooo. I like shades of grey too. No, I was more thinking "Uncomfortable" like "24" uncomfortable where our dashing hero dashingly does heroic things like torture, and subvert due process and the fifth amendment, says 'fuck warrants' and dashing heroic stuff like that.

Well, it's about a pair of vigilantes, so there is a certain amount of breaking the law involved. But it's a helluva lot more thoughtful than 24 could ever hope to be, and it has managed to surprise me on several occasions, which is not easy to do. You should give it a try.

Also for me it's often about the teensy clues we get about two intensely private men. Finch is this incredible enigma, we almost nothing about him. We get these delicious hints through flashbacks to the creation of "The Machine" and the aftermath. I won't say the show is the best written thing on TV or groundbreaking or anything but definitely intriguing.

Feeling much better, thanks. And OMG so loving PoI (must...make...Finch...icon), if you're caught up I will point you at fic through Number Crunch. There's at least a few I think are pretty amazing. As for the tea, that's all [livejournal.com profile] tersa, it was the gift she insisted on sending to you ;) We found it at a local Chinese grocery store that's very easy to get to so if you need more just say the word.

I got turned on to PoI very early, so yeah, I'm all caught up on episodes. It's the fic I'm behind the curve on.

I had suspected that, seeing how I used to drag her into every tea shop we came across in my quest to find the stuff. Do tell her thank you for me!
