The Good:

Getting to spend a great deal of time with [livejournal.com profile] cyranocyrano while he was out visiting, he is always a delight and I miss him terribly now that he's living in the midwest.

Got the "Red Ring of Death" on my Xbox 360 after spending most of Xmas with it running (oops), but instead of panicking I checked the Microsoft site and miracle of miracles my console is still under warranty through January of next year. If it was going to fall over and die this was the time.

Fell off the yoga wagon a bit while C- was visiting so I could be social but I'm getting back on tonight and stopping at Every Woman Health Club to sign up for the Bollywood class I used to love with V-. Can't wait to get moving again, and I wonder what she's going to teach this time!

The Bad:

Got my electricity bill for last month and it went from $50 (my usual amount) to $291. I am completely baffled by what could possibly have caused this, I'm frugal to the point of absurdity and don't use Xmas lights or overuse appliances. I think I'm going to try to talk to the park manager to see if he can explain to me how the meter is read so I can work out even how to read the bill. Then I may see about investing in a new hot water heater as it's the only culprit I can think that might be responsible. Also all of my showers and washer are iron stained which is re-alerting me that the current heater wasn't properly maintained before I moved in. I'm thinking of an energy star rated tankless heater, if anyone wants to warn me off now's the time.

PG&E can legally estimate for several months and then do a meter read, you have to read the fine print on the bill. It can be a real gotcha, I would look through your old bills and call PG&E to be clear if they were doing estimates or not.

It isn't done through PG&E, the manager of the park reads the meters and processes the bills as part of our space rent. I just can't make sense of the bill. I tried to read it first to see if maybe I could see how the amounts were reached but I'm utterly baffled.

PS: I think the tankless are quite nice, we cannot use that here because our water heater provides the heat for our house

I'd definitely look for an explanation and challenge that bill. A sixfold increase is not normal.
