Blah, blah vampire emergency, blah...
Aug. 23rd, 2010 08:46 pmOk a few of the reasons I'm loving it so much is that:
a) we are getting some serious Sam back story this season and even some character development. How fucking awesome is it that he once undoubtedly turned into a cat to be a cat burglar. Also while the whole "To Catch a Thief" look was not hard on the eyes I have to say I prefer our scruffy, sweet current day Sam.
b) totally had Holly pegged as a Wiccan and so far can I just say, yay for a somewhat realistic and positive depiction of Wicca on tv. And double-yay for Sam correctly identifying Wicca as a religion (ok triple yay for Sam unequivocally stating that his bar was a religion-free zone). Please let Holly stay a positive representation, please, please, please!
c) also totally had Jesus pegged as a magic-user though I'd originally thought voo-doo. Certainly he comes from a hedge magic tradition but just how he's identified I'm not sure, sorcerer? Shaman? And I'm fascinated to see where he's going to lead Lafayette. I'd really like to see Lafayette come into his own and be able to stand up to Eric eventually.
d) and I feel like downright bowing down and kissing the feet of the writers for actually letting the characters tell one another the truth instead of dragging out the lies. Eric laying it all out for the Authority, Arlene confiding in Terry (also, Terry, could you be any cooler?), Jason telling Tara he killed Eggs, Bill finally telling Sookie what she is (even if he's not telling her the whole truth). American tv writers tend to use these lies as continuing plot points and it's a rather lazy way to up the drama. I much prefer a straight up exchange of honesty and characters having to deal with the fall-out sooner rather than later.
e) Jessica and Hoyt are back together (and Tommy played a reluctant and unknowing role, which made it all the better), I know it's kind of lame but they're such a cute couple, I like them hooked up.
f) is it wrong to like Crystal better as a panther than in her human guise? She makes me want to strangle her most of the time but she is one pretty kitty. It's probably also wrong that I really, really hope we get a Crystal vs. Debbie (i.e. werepanther vs. werewolf) girl fight?
g) boy on boy action! So much in just one season makes me a very happy camper.
h) Randall Edgington going utterly bat-shit crazy has been utterly delightful. Ok, maybe he's not quite as entertaining as the introduction of Moriarty in the final episode of Sherlock this season (which was awesome!), but he's a close second. I actually feel pretty bad for him, if he cared for anyone in his existence it was certainly Talbot and now he's lost him.
I'm actually, god help me, putting together a mix for this season. Yes, it is that good. Why aren't you all watching it? Why?!
