When is Texas going to secede already?

The 2010 GOP platform in Texas supports laws that criminalize sodomy and suggests that straight people who support same-sex marriage should be penalized with jail time. The GOP platform was quoted as openly stating:

“We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy,” the GOP platform reads. Meaning that even though the U.S. Supreme Court overturned sodomy laws last decade (ironically in a case that stemmed from Texas), Texas Republicans would like the state to have the power to criminalize LGBT folks for having sex.

“We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such,” reads the GOP platform.

If a straight person were to aid and abet a gay couple with marriage in Texas, the GOP would like to see that person serve mandatory jail time.

Welp, guess I'll never be visiting the state, I'd end up in the pokey faster than you can say "Gay nups". Also fuck the Texas GOP.

I wish I could say the same. My brother, (wife and nephew,) still live in the Texas Hill Country and I love visiting Austin, (after living there for three years in the early 90s.)

A lot of things the state, and the Austin school board, disgusts me. I'd never move back, (unless there were radical changes, which I doubt,) but like a lot of places I've been, I like visiting there.

And there is a large and vibrant LGBT Community in Austin. I just don't envy the hurdles they must constantly face.

I do note, as much as this platform disgusts and enrages me, I will note that the platform specifies 'civil officials' which means that if a member of the clergy, gay or straight, performed a ceremony of marriage for a gay couple, they would still be married in the eyes of G*d. And nobody would be in violation of the law, except for Uncle Gad, who got completely pissed at the reception and drove his car into the municipal swimming pool.

I really, really wish that the states would stop this nullification language. We fought a WAR over that in the 19th century, and guess what? THEY LOST.
