Real quick update because this weekend has been nutty-busy. First Iron Man 2 gets a big thumb's up from me. It's not perfect by any means but is, I would argue, just as enjoyable as the first. RDJ continues to just own the role of Tony Stark, getting to see more of Jon Favreau as "Happy" was nice too, and of course Scarlett Johanssen as Black Widow is a pretty big selling point all on her own. Hell, her just standing around in some of those costumes is probably worth the price of admission.
Second, I officially gave up on the latest incarnation of Dr. Who this weekend. I'm sorry but I can't get past the fact that I think he's a complete dick and god how I loathe his companion. Seriously, she's starting to make me think back fondly on Martha. Martha for god's sake! And don't even get me started on the plots. How Moffat managed to make me laugh at one of the best baddies he ever created because he just didn't understand on a fundamental level what had made them scary in the first place. Then the best NPC he came up with last season (who I'd originally loved) he bungled so badly I loathed her by the end of the episode.
I have way better ways to spend an hour of my time, thanks.
Aside from that just lots of running around and taking care of some stuff that had been building up for a while. One of these days I'm going to have a sit down and veg style weekend with absolutely no plans or chores to do and I'm just not going to know what to do with myself. I expect if that should ever happen the cats would conspire, as they always do, to create some work for me. *sigh*

Date: 2010-05-10 03:47 pm (UTC)Aelf and I were discussing that very thing on the ride home after watching the latest two episodes. It's either that or Moffat, while great in an episodic format, couldn't do an entire series if his life depended on it. I'm beginning to think he's just a really good fanfic writer, great with established characters in one-off stories but that's about it.
Haven't seen Who yet...
Date: 2010-05-10 07:37 pm (UTC)ScarJo has never really been high on the list heretofore. I say heretofore, because GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING Y'ALL.
Also, I'd say they did a pretty good job of doing "Demon in a Bottle" without actually DOING "Demon in a Bottle," but I'll be disappointed if they don't have the booze come back to bite Tony in the ass at some point. If they slow-roll it as effectively as John Rogers and Tim Hutton did for Nate Ford on "Leverage" I'll be quite pleased.
HOWLED at Larry Ellison. That was inevitable. If any Silly Con Valley gozillionaire was to actually blow ten billion dollars on a super suit and try to fight crime, it would definitely be Unca Larry. And he would make Tony Stark's level of humility look like Albert Schweitzer.
Suitcase armor now, plzkthxbai.

My comment to Aelf on the subject was that the plotline they chose to go with in the second film was, IMHO, a sanitized "family friendly" version of "Demon in a Bottle". I don't want to give away too much but there is a scene that I wondered whether RDJ had been a little uncomfortable shooting it as it undoubtedly had hit pretty damned close to home during the low points in his life.
