Where's the goddamn outrage about this?

After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday approved a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers' commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light....

The board, whose members are elected, has influence beyond Texas because the state is one of the largest buyers of textbooks....

There were no historians, sociologists or economists consulted at the meetings, though some members of the conservative bloc held themselves out as experts on certain topics.

And better yet:

[s]truck the word "democratic" in references to the form of U.S. government and replaced it with "constitutional republic."

The GOP isn't going to be content until they've completely rewritten not only history but reality itself to suit them. The sad part is it looks like the rest of us are probably going to sit around and let them get away with it.

There are several good reasons a lot of non-religious people are turning to homeschooling. Produce a crap product, watch people vote with their feet.

I've been talking about that apathy for years. Some people think that's the only answer, and this is what we get.

I feel sorry for those poor kids in Texas.

I wish this would only effect the kids in Texas, I mean I'd be sad for them but hey, it's Texas. But the Texas board makes decisions regarding textbooks for the entire country.

School districts do have a choice, and they have been known to reject textbooks with this kind of crap before.

But even if these folks don't get their way, the textbooks are still bullshit. They were when I was a kid and my teacher friends tell me they still are.

When I think back on all the outright lies I was taught in school this doesn't surprise me.

Still, these folks go way too far and should be stopped. Too bad nobody's going to do so.
