Feb. 24th, 2010 08:52 pmOk this makes me wish I'd actually been watching the Olympics:
Although the announcer saying it's "Indian folk music" made me laugh a lot. More like Rani Mukerji/Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's greatest hits. Can you name those Bollywood tunes?
1) Kajra Re - Bunty Aur Babli
2) Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka - Devdas
3) Dola Re Dola - Devdas
I thought they did a reasonably good job considering how difficult it is to try to mesh the Bollywood style with something like figure skating.
Which reminds me, if I weren't still a bit under the weather I would so be heading to one of the local Holi festivals this weekend. But it looks like the one at Stanford one isn't until March 27 so that might just be do-able.
Which also reminds me my favorite Bollywood dance teacher, Vikashni, is starting up her dance classes again in March. I was going to give them a pass because I'm feeling particularly poor but they're only $10 each and drop in so if I cut back just a tiny bit elsewhere I might be able to do it. And lord could I use the workout. If you're likewise interested let me know, it'd be great to have a bunch of people there this time!

Date: 2010-02-25 05:29 am (UTC)And, seriously, I just about died when they picked up some of the Dola Re Dola moves and worked them in to the choreography. She might pretend to be Aish, but he is NOT Madhuri!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this. I frightened Teo I was laughing so hard. Brilliant!

Date: 2010-02-25 08:17 am (UTC)Mind you - Bollywood music is as legit as Hollywood and Broadway music, both of which have been used in competition. So Yeah!
And yes, it was great that they worked in some Indian moves into the routine. The eye work was nice. And I love the ending pose.
