I was getting off the highway and suddenly the light comes on and it does this hard shift as I'm braking. Once I get onto the street I suddenly can't get it over 40 miles an hour and every time I brake again the car lurches. I have absolutely no idea what might have caused it but I've got an appointment in half an hour so keep your fingers crossed for me.

remember when that happened to me on the way to do a video at Joan's? Sounds like the exact same thing. A hard shift and then absolutely no pick up. :( Hope that's not what happened for you. And I hope it's all under warranty!!!
