Ok so I did something a little crazy recently but I couldn't quite resist. The kitty rescue organization I used to work with sent out a plea for a bunch of kitties who'd been abandoned and were being abused by the local community. I agreed to take one on for socializing for two months so last night the very nice lady in charge of this rescue dropped a six month old kitten off and she's currently in my guest room.

Now I know what you're thinking but I also got permission from the group to bring Lola to their next adoption fair the first weekend of January, so no I'm not taking on 4 cats for the foreseeable future. As soon as the little one is ready to join her on the adoption fair circuit I'll be shuttling both of them over but it may take a few weeks. She's rather skittish and still a little feral, but I don't think it's going to take long to completely win her over.

So in the meantime I'm supposed to come up with a name for her (she's currently simply called "Eight") and I'm open to suggestions.

She's a little schizophrenic at present, not sure she wants attention but loving it once the scritches start. She's a great eater and loves playing. If I had to describe her overall physical appearance I'd have to say...Hobbit-esque. She's kind of short and stubby with a truncated tail.

The geekier the suggestions the better :)

She needs a Hobbit-y name, for sure. Maybe Took?

Hmm, Took has some definite possibilities.

You realize your cat to human ratio now outweighs ours, right? :)

I'll suggest... Leela. She's a savage little companion, right? And then you have Lola and Leela, which is cute. Although perhaps confusing for the kittens themselves.

If she were brown or better yet calico there would be no question, but I'll definitely consider it. At this point my main plan is to keep throwing names at her until she actually responds to something. It may work better than with Lola who still mostly responds to "Food".

Sounds like a Caprica to me.

LOL, nice and the gray works with the ever cloudy skies of ever-damp post-nuclear Caprica :D

I dunno, I kind of like Eight. Sounds a little Star Trekkian.

To be honest that was my first thought as well but I'm not sure the group I'm helping out with would be all that amused by it. Still, if she starts responding to it I just might.

I'd suggest one of Doctor #8's companions, but I'm darned if I can remember any names. (Never listened to the radio plays, you see...)

Hmm, I'll go look that up. I know I had one of the books but it was so craptastic I got rid of it and did a mental purge...

I like that. I came up with Prudence myself last night because I kept singing "Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?" while luring her out from under the couch. But there is something about her that has a certain "lavender and lace" feel to it. Well I'll give it a try anyway and see how she responds.

Eight sounds like a perfectly good name, or maybe Eight of Four. Mithfin is gray-hair in Sindarin.

Technically I think she's actually Eight of Twelve...I think. I'd have to check with the nice lady that dropped her off with me. She actually came to me for food and love this morning instead of me having to go to her. Progress!

Congratulations on progress! Also, I think it might actually be Mithfinnel for a girl.
