Two things that I believe say a lot about me as a person. One, I went out to the dumpster yesterday to take the trash out and noticed one of the bags in the nearest one...moving. Not just moving, really moving. I immediately walk up close enough to figure out it's a squirrel that has somehow gotten caught in a trash bag. I start giggling and then cooing to it, "Ok, ok, I'll get you out of there." Meanwhile it's freaking out and I'm having a heckuva time figuring out where the hole is. Finally I do and lift the bag sufficiently for the squirrel to get out. It races out, pauses just long enough to glance back at me, then took off. I couldn't stop laughing. I am apparently fated to have weird encounters with squirrels...and I kinda like it.

Second, my new favorite tv show is "Monsters Inside Me", an Animal Planet series on deadly parasites. I took a course on parasitology in college and was absolutely fascinated. I know the show is probably supposed to gross viewers out but I just think it's incredibly cool. Especially the brain eating parasites like the rat lung worm. I could watch this show all day!

I admire that you can watch that show. Because every time I see it (usually on my DVR shows) I have to fast forward x3. It makes me scream a little in terror.

I have a sick fascination with the critters and nothing makes me happier than mentioning the parasite that lays its eggs in water chestnuts while eating Chinese food with friends :)

Back when he had a job, Steve would sometimes tell his supervisor that he had to leave early because he was having a medical emergency. When they asked him what it was, he would tell them he had a guinea worm, Baghdad blight, a prolapsed uterus, necrotizing acidophilus ... you name it. I'll have to mention the rat lungworm to him so he can file it away for future use. He loves this stuff.

Everybody needs a spirit animal. Perhaps Tapeworm is yours.

I think I'm going with squirrels on that one.

And methinks certain housecats might have you as theirs.

Yeah. The "rat lung worm" really does it for me.
