But people keep buying his books and seeing the movies based on them. They are giving him money to write stupid stories that make uneducated people believe truly brain damaged things about actual historical events/people/etc. As a trained art historian it makes me want to beat a hole in the wall with my forehead.
Luckily, I can pretty much avoid him, his books, his movies, and the people who for some reason find them worthwhile. However, one day they will make a movie of Digital Fortress. And that is the day I buy a sniper rifle.
I couldn't stand him because a) he clearly stole the whole "Holy Blood, Holy Cow" business from Baigent and Lincoln, b) the idea is theologically and historically ridiculous, and c) his writing suck is TERRIBLE. I keep waiting for the Da Vinci Code thing to show up at K'zoo as the Bad Movie of the Conference.
I once had a coworker defend the DaVinci Code and try to argue the points with me. It was all I could do not to throttle her. Finally I just had to walk away because there are only so many ways you can say, "You don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about."
I can't remember where I heard about it. I just know it's a legendary piece of badfic - so legendary that YouTube is full of people doing dramatic readings of it, and someone even made it into a little movie. The guy who wrote it has written lots of other things, all equally terrible.
Yeah, "Far too late for now, anyway" is truly a brilliant bit of nonsense.
I think I should probably have said that I don't hate him on a personal level, just the fact that there are so many people with so little taste or interest in actual history who are willing to pay him to write poorly. When I think of all the incredible authors out there who get overlooked because of people like him and Stephanie Meyer it just makes me want to weep.
I've never read any of the books or seen the movies, so I any opinion I may have is uninformed hearsay. Besides, the idea that the Illumaniti is still around influencing the world from the shadows is fun.

Where in the world did you dig that up?
