For those of you who haven't seen the "Gathering Storm" commercial (i.e. ZOMG the gays are coming! The gays are coming!) I present you with the fixed version via Sadly, No:

Also, which is the most embarrassing thing said by an elected official recently:

1) Bachus says there's 17 'socialists' in House

Rep. Spencer Bachus, the top Republican on the Financial Services Committee, told a hometown crowd in Alabama today he believes there are several socialists in the House.

Actually, he says there are exactly 17 socialists in the House of Representatives.....

2) A North Texas legislator during House testimony on voter identification legislation said Asian-descent voters should adopt names that are "easier for Americans to deal with."

... state Rep. Betty Brown, R-Terrell ... suggested that Asian-Americans should find a way to make their names more accessible.

"Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese -- I understand it's a rather difficult language -- do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?" Brown said.

Brown later told Ko: "Can't you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?" ...

I think I've gotta' go with Betty, myself but I like Spencer's nod to classic McCarthy-ism. It's a nice touch. Though for sheer unadulterated, brain melting dumb I think Betty's got him beat.

You mean to tell me that's a real ad on TV? Wow. It says so much without proof (just the small print at one point), and its sweetly earnest tone is just saccharine enough to make people giggle.

Yep, real ad...well the original, not the "fixed" version. Wouldn't it be great if the latter ran as well?

Yep, real ad. Full of falsehoods and half truths with ominous background and zombie-like actors. It's almost too perfect in its own way.

I will go one better than that.

The group behind the ad above has launched an initiative called Two Million For Marriage. And they are abbreviating it...as God is my witness, this is true, may the Lord strike me dead if I'm lying about this one...they are abbreviating it:

2M4M

I almost drove into a pole when I heard that. Or would have, if I'd been in a car.

Also, it's a tough call...Spence was my representative back in the old country, so I hate to think that anybody could come take our title in Ultimate Stupid Championship, but let's face it, if anybody's gonna do it, it would be a Texas state legislator...plus, let's face it, the whole "there are exactly x members of the Y party in Z" is kind of derivative at best if not outright hack.

Dunno. Hard one.

My take too, though Betty telling a guy named "Ko" that asian names are too hard to pronounce/spell tipped it in her favor for me.
