Feb. 1st, 2009 06:42 pmBit of a whirlwind of a weekend but I got a bunch accomplished so I'm feeling good. Books brought to Book Buyers and now I have a nice fat credit account there (yay!), clothes brought to Goodwill, apartment tidied and time well spent with friends. Got to see "Slumdog Millionaire" with
cyranocyrano and all I can say is this: SEE THIS FILM. Seriously it is breathtakingly good. Those familiar with the Bollywood scene will get a few of the jokes that passed over the American audience, but you won't miss out on much even if you don't know the actors referenced. It's an amazingly well crafted story that will have you both crying and grinning, and it has the best credits I've seen. Also I'd like to shake the hand of the casting director because their casting for the kids, teens and adult versions of the three main characters were just perfect.
And, oh, the soundtrack...just...oh.
Finished up "Pushing Daisies" and all I can howl is: "NO YOU CAN'T LEAVE IT THERE!" Holy shit what a cliffhanger. Goddamn! I'm glad I went into this show knowing it was cancelled because if I'd had to deal with the pain of loss it might well have been sniper rifle and water tower time.
And I got to see the end of "Jodhaa Akbar" (many thanks to
aelfsciene!) and I loved it.
First can I just say that I think it's a damn shame when, in the middle of your festival of personal awesomeness, you get taken out by a damn ninja? Isn't that always the way? Bunch of party poopers, that's what they are. Also Bollywood actors are the biggest teases when it comes to sex scenes ever. The almost-kisses alone in the "Let's get it on" sequence had me reacting somewhat similarly to when I'm watching a hockey game and the Sharks are close to scoring. I was actually leaning forward only to fall back and groan, "Oh my god that was *so* close to an actual brush of lips!" I knew it wasn't going to happen, but still, well choreographed. And you really got your money's worth with that final battle between the Emperor and his evil brother-in-law, I've seen serious throwdowns in Hong Kong flicks that took less time. All in all a really nice little flick.
And many thanks to
elo_sf for having me over to see the latest episodes of "Demons" (which sucked such ass it defies the telling of it) and "Being Human". Oh my god, "Being Human" just keeps getting better. Seriously I couldn't be more in love with this show than I am. I went nearly fetal from the absolute adorability of the relationship between Mitchell and George. I find myself totally ok with the re-casting of Mitchell and Annie, which kind of surprised me. The new Mitchell is much more nurturing, and that is not a word I usually associate with a vampire. The new Annie is sweeter and softer than the original and she won me over without even trying.
I'm very much afraid I'm going to be pimping this show pretty heavily as well, just so you know.
And finally a big thanks to
reluctantgenius who taught me how to roll start a car...well, in theory anyway. Alas the car didn't actually start despite our best efforts but it was a helluva workout :) We both decided we really need to get back to exercising...
And I come home to discover a Super Bowl day House marathon, what could be cooler than that?

Date: 2009-02-02 03:48 am (UTC)As far as Slumdog goes, I don't know what all the excitement was about. It was well done, it was cute, but, by the end, I was "is that all it was about?"
