What is the current status of Ashley Todd’s chifferobe?

You know I heard about the McCain staffer in PA who was supposedly attacked by an Obama supporter this morning on my way into work and my first thought was, "Yeah, right." My second thought was, "Jeez, when did I become so cynical? I mean it might have happened and if so that would really suck." Of course my third thought was, "Hmm, I haven't seen 'To Kill a Mockingbird' in a long while..."

Of course I wasn't the slightest bit surprised when I heard that it was all a big fucking lie:

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A campaign worker who claimed she was the victim of a politically-motivated attack in which she was beaten, kicked and cut, now admits that she made the whole story up.

According to Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard, Ashley Todd, 20, told investigators today that she "was not robbed and there was no 6'4" black male attacker."

Todd initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield Wednesday night and that the suspect began beating her after seeing a John McCain bumper sticker on her car.

Todd claimed that the mugger even cut a backwards letter "B" in her cheek.

But today investigators say Todd confessed that the attack never happened.

At a news conference this afternoon, officials said they believe that Todd's injuries were self-inflicted.

Police investigating the report said Todd's story began to unravel early on and they administered a polygraph test.

Moral of the story: these days one can't be too cynical.

Yeah, my gut told me this was bogus the moment I saw the original report. Part of it was the backward B. Letters or words carved into a victim's flesh are a red flag to law enforcement, as 99% of the time they turn out to be self-inflicted. Read a fascinating article about this sort of thing several years ago, but damned if I can remember the source now.

It's too bad she took it too far, she might well have gotten away with it if not for the backwards "B". Oh and the ATM video, that bit wasn't terribly well thought out either.

On a totally different subject, did you catch tonight's SGA? MY GOD Woolsey is the pimp mac daddy of the Pegasus Galaxy.

I haven't watched it yet, dunno if I'll have the time before I leave for CA. But yay Woolsey! I am really liking what they've done with his character, so I look forward to seeing him kick some ass. 8)

Well, it's the final season, I suppose they're entitled to be lazy and do a clip show. *g* At any rate, I've snagged a copy to watch later, though I'll prolly save it and next week's episode for the flight back to Florida. :)

I read about this as well. I bet Faux News picked up the story and ran with it, so some people will likely always believe it.

This is the kind of dirty shit people who want to pervert our democracy try and pull, (or what's left of our democracy.)

I'm heartened that Obama is 14 points ahead is some polls.
