Just got back from seeing "Burn After Reading" and I give it two big thumbs up. I'm torn between Clooney and Pitt as my favorite performance in the film because they were both fucking brilliant. If you're a fan of dark comedy it is a must see, take my word for it.

Whoever came up with the brilliant idea of a buddy episode with Rodney and Daniel teaming up and going on a treasure hunt, I thank you. I just can't believe it took you 5 seasons to do it! From the minute Daniel arrived, leveled a big shit-eating grin on McKay and all but purred, "Hi, Rodney!" I was hooked. When they went off on a treasure hunt together I knew it was going to be fun, but I had no idea how much fun. Watching the two actually bond (the bit where they giggle over John "almost being in MENSA" had me howling) and complement each other was a joy. The scene where, half a galaxy away, John and Rodney practically finish each others' sentences made me squee like the silly little slash fan I am. The baddies don't look too interesting, but they've certainly got fun tech, and if I hadn't already been convinced that Janus was a first class asshole I most certainly would've been by the time the Stargate blew up.

I cannot wait until next week to see how this all plays out!

As for my continuing obsession with House, well let's just say that the episode where he gives himself a migraine to prove a point and then takes a shower while tripping on LSD cemented a couple of things for me. First, that I cannot begrudge any female character on the show who throws herself shamelessly at his feet. Second, by the end of the episode it became apparent to me, blindingly so, that House is a Gemini. I popped on over to Wikipedia and sure enough his birthday is given as June 11, 3 days before mine. Like does indeed know like.

It explained a lot to me, how I could always understand why he was doing something and what he was feeling at any given moment...more so than with any other character I can think of. And beyond that, why I always sympathize and forgive him, whether or not he deserves that forgiveness. He's sort of the uber-Gemini, if we let our natural inclinations run wild...and are born geniuses, of course. Now when I comment that Geminis are considered the most cruel of the astrological signs I can easily point to him as an exemplar. We all have the potential to be that vicious, thankfully most of us choose not to be :)

If I hadn't figured it out on my own this Wilson quote would've nailed it for me:

"You know how some doctors have the Messiah complex, they need to save the world? You've got the Rubik's complex, you need to solve the puzzle."

You'll be disappointed, then, as the conclusion won't air for two weeks.

Personally, I thought the episode was a giant snooze-fest, with too much reliance on characters being Stupid For The Sake Of Plot (such as it was), not to mention yet another deus ex machina alien race whose very existence makes NO damned sense, and John getting blown up for the umpteenth time. Yes, Daniel and Rodney were indeed very cute together, and I did like the bit where John & Rodney were finishing each other's sentences. Otherwise? YAWN. Bored now.

I wasn't all that impressed with "Burn," although I thought the performances were outstanding. I just felt the film was missing "something," but what that "something" was I cannot say.

The story was not very focused, and the ending was unsatisfying from a plot perspective. I think it was summed up very well by the exchange at Langley.

"So what did we learn?"
"...Not to do that again, I guess. Whatever we did."

I'd say that's an accurate description of the film.

I hope you're doing well, Chuck.

Mmmm. Not 'focused'. The word I want there is 'coherent' I think.

I'm doing okay, I think. Like E's mix disc says, I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me. And sooner or later I'll figure out what the hell my future looks like.

I had not, thanks for sharing that. I would totally agree :)
