You want to hear something pathetic? I didn't get outside earlier today to put some food out for the squirrels and the most dominant of the bunch that eat here actually came to the patio door and started in at me very clearly saying, "Feed me!" The pathetic part is that I actually got up and did just that. Yes I've been well trained not only by my cats, but now apparently by the wildlife as well.

It was really interesting to see "The Shrine" and "Whispers" back to back because it really beautifully illustrates just how good this show can be when it actually makes an effort and how mediocre it can be when it doesn't.

Sporty Spice takes the lead

I only have a few things to say about this one, the first being that the writers who put this script together need to return to "Writing Women Characters 101". As soon as the SGA version of the Spice Girls (a.k.a. Team Hottie) showed up I groaned aloud and it pretty much went downhill from there. To be honest I'm not even entirely sure what the hell the episode was about except that it involved another of Michael's experiments (yawn) and some rather confusing creatures with smoke coming out of their gills and other anatomical anomalies that made the part of my brain that I spent time filling with biology information back in college want to explode.

Seriously, just pick up a damn book, people that's all I'm asking. Hell, watch the Discovery Channel once in a while, if the reading thing is too much trouble.

Anyway, Carson was as cute as always but there is seriously no way that man is straight. Sure, have him flirt with the adorable but feisty Alison (and Nicole de Boer remains as cute as ever) all you want but if you ask me it's far more likely the two would be dishing about hot guys on the city. Actually, now that I think about it I wonder if anybody's slashed Carson and Woolsey, I'd totally read that...

Aside from that I think John threw himself, yet again, into danger in his ongoing quest to die young and leave a beautiful corpse. And then Carson left the city at the end to go do...something, I'm not quite sure what. And there was some Rodney at the beginning and the end for what seemed to be little to no reason but hey, I'm glad David got the paycheck. All in all a sloppy story with pathetic characterizations and about as frightening as as your typical black cat jumping unexpectedly in a dark room. C'mon, writers, you can do better than this.

Ah the squirrels are feeding happily again, one at the feeder and one below picking up the remains. The cats are vastly amused by this. The squirrel show is their all time favorite, especially when there's drama like squirrel fights!

Whenever I see Mallozi and Mullie's names appear in the writing credits, I know the episode has a 98% chance of sucking like an F-5 tornado. They have occasionally surprised me, which is why I gave 'em a 98% suck rating rather than a full 100. But more often than not, their scripts are bloody awful. And the less said about their ability to write believable female characters--or have male characters react to said women like grown men instead of randy 14 year old boys--the better.

From the setup and the way the episode unfolded, I'm betting this one was intended to be an "homage" to zombie movies. And by homage I mean rip off every tired horror movie cliche because they're too lazy to come up with a plot that makes sense.

As for "Team Spice" ... I'm still boggling about the whole "What, you didn't know my whole team was made up of girls?" exchange at the very beginning of the ep. I thought John was supposed to be the military commander of Atlantis. He should damned well know every single gate team under his command. Seriously, WTF were they thinking?

I'll answer my own question: They weren't thinking. This is Mallozi and Mullie. They never think these things through, it's one of their hallmarks, hence the 98% suckage rating. :P

The hand bump between Carson and John actually made me laugh but for the wrong reasons. I think I actually said aloud, "Seriously?"

Well they had already ripped off Aliens with the other Michael creates giant bug people for absolutely no friggin' reason ep...

I almost banged my head against the wall at that one. These four chickies have been running missions with three military personnel supposedly under John's command and one scientist supposedly under Rodney's...and yet nobody knows anything about them. Yes, that makes all kinds of sense! Do they let any four people just randomly hook up and go on missions or what?

You saw my SGA Sims 2 Theatre spoof of the whole Michael-and-his-bug-men-army thing, right?

Anyway, I reiterate my early comments: This is Mallozi and Mullie. Everything they touch turns to shit. Why? Because they just don't CARE.
