ebonlock | Sozin's Comet Revisted

First and foremost I just have to say that the attention to detail on this series was one of the first things that caught my eye about it. Ok sure the absolute first thing was great characters, second a believable and interesting universe, third great voice acting, fourth incredibly well written scripts...and well you get it.

But the finale was the one time I could've forgiven the writers/artists for skipping the small stuff so they could focus on wrapping up the bigger plots. Thing is I didn't have to, 'cause OMG they didn't miss a thing in that four parter. Some of my favorite moments were, in fact, the little ones that some viewers might not have even noticed. One of my favorites, in the flashback scene at the war council meeting, occurs when Ozai walks down onto the map and his shadow falls across the land like the head of a hungry dragon. It's a tiny moment but a beautifully significant one.

The second was during Azula's little chat with the Dai Li where you see just a few strands of hair out of place on her forehead. We've never seen her mussed before and it was a wonderfully subtle but telling sign of her mental degradation.

During the battle on the war balloons when Sokka thinks to keep a hand on Toph and as debris is falling around them, he rolls on top of her. Again it's one of those little touches that could've easily been forgotten in the overall excitement of the fight.
