Had a quiet but productive weekend that began with another trip to ZPizza where we tried out a couple of new ones. I continue to be fond of the pesto/eggplant combo, though the Thai did little for me I'm afraid. Watched the new Scifi series Charlie Jade which is, in a word, confusing. Between [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene, [livejournal.com profile] moonlightnrain and I we couldn't make heads nor tails of it. Also the actresses on the series seem to have been solely hired to look good naked in bed, sadly all naked scenes have been cut out of the show, leaving us very little to appreciate about their performances. Also if you're going to set a series in 3 distinct alternate realities could you spend a little time actually explaining each of them? What I gleaned from the first episode, there are 3 different realities that are all connected. Water is plentiful on at least one of them and in short supply on another. One seems very high tech and the other two somewhat lower tech. Why? Who knows, and frankly, who cares?

We all were getting a little annoyed by the repeated commercials for "The Happening" so I looked up spoilers and read them aloud. All I can say is, oh lord. The movie sounds unintentionally hilarious, the kind of epic fail that might almost be entertaining to go and see with sufficient amounts of alcohol and chocolate. Why in the name of all that is holy do they keep letting this man make movies?

On a brighter note both Dr. Who and BSG were satisfying this week. I love it when Donna gets to show us just how brilliant she is, her pragmatism and attention to detail save the day every bit as often as the Doctor's genius and that's just cool. See that's how a companion/Doctor relationship is supposed to work. As for BSG, couldn't have been more thrilled to have an ep focus on Laura who remains one of the most well rounded and real characters on tv today. I was also intrigued by the realization that the Laura/Bill relationship is about the only romance on tv that actively holds my interest. I want to see these two mature people hook up in the worst way. They're just so damn good together.

And just a few more weeks until SGA starts up again, in the meantime my friend J- just sent me a voicemail recording from Rodney McKay that made me squee with pleasure. You can get your own here, just click on the Multimedia link at the top and if you're lucky enough to have one of the names on the drop down list you too can have Dr. Mc-SnarkyPants telling folks you're much too busy saving the universe to answer the phone just now.

I also watched Charlie Jade, and my impressions were somewhat similar. I got myself a little spoiled by reading an article or two online getting the general gist of the show down, but... eh, I'll be glad when Chuck is back on the airwaves. :-)

It really was quite odd. No cover, no room to dodge... if you can't hit a perfectly-retreating target with a three-shot burst from a military-grade rifle, you need to turn in your gun and find another line of work. Real hired guns will scorn and mock you without mercy, telling you, "You shoot like a pacifist!" :-}

Perhaps they were that universe's version of rent a cops?

Certainly can't disagree with any of your points, I think the one series that this one reminded me of at least visually was Max Headroom. Thing was Max had some good actors, a basically coherent universe and plot and really fun dialog. While CJ was pretty (and hey, South Africa is a lovely country, no question about it) I just didn't see anything else to hold my attention.

Personally, I miss the nakedness you say was cut - which wouldn't have saved the plot at all but certainly would add a further degree of visual interest. *rowr* ;-)

'Sides, didn't Lost make several seasons of semi-coherency & beachwear keep your attention? *teases gently*
