Ok everybody in the world posted a link to this:

Which makes today's mantra a two-parter, the first being "You have no money, don't even think about it" and the second, "Do you have any idea just how many t-shirts you currently own? Why yes you do because you just packed and lugged them to a new apartment. No, just no."

Still, a Guild of Calamitous Intent t-shirt...

*sigh*

I must admit I did bubkiss this weekend and it felt really good after the whirlwind of the previous one. [livejournal.com profile] moonlightnrain and I even went to WCW where she soaked in a tub and I got a massage with the last of my Spa Finder gift certificates (thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf!). I went in feeling crampy and sore and came out feeling relaxed and happy, it was the perfect end to the perfect long weekend.

Last night I ended up watching the beginning of A&E's version of "The Andromeda Strain" which was every bit as cliche and crappy as I'd expected. But it's got like everybody in it including a somewhat weird looking Ricky Schroeder as a military doctor guy. Most of the time watching it I was sitting there going, "Oh hey it's Doctor Cox's wife from Scrubs!" or "Hey it's that asshole guy from SG-1!" So at least I was mildly entertained, but the science was just tragic. I mean seriously, just tragic.

So it sucked, like most A&E remakes? I'm thinking of the copy of "Lathe of Heaven" that I had picked up, thinking it was the PBS version. I dropped it on my MythTV schedule anyway - I can always delete it.

It wasn't like the original was Oscar material or anything but this one was just plain silly. And mixing in all the current references to pop culture wasn't helping. One of the scenes that made me groan aloud was when the stoner girl claimed not to watch "real" news, only "Colbert".

Oh my

Oh my. I'm going to see if the RCPL has the original for loan. Failing that, netflix! MythTV will pick up the remake this weekend.

Andromeda Strain was amongst a group of three movies that my mom had to go see in the early seventies (or late sixties???) for what we would now call a "computer literacy" class. My first exposure to sci-fi cinema, along with 2001 and THX-1138.

I felt dirtier after watching that than I do the lie detector show (which works out the commercial detection and jump ahead functions of MythTV).

That was BAD.

Truly bad.

Awful.

BOOOOO!

You have no one but yourself to blame, I'm afraid, as I did warn you that it was tragic ;)
