Really like the unknowns casting (goodbye Antonio Banderas, bwah-ha-ha!), and the second Christine choice is far and away my fave. Here's hoping!

Date: 2003-04-29 01:08 pm (UTC)It's pretty rare that they'll go with the stage performer when they make something like this, although Crawford actually has done some film work.
I just can't imagine anyone else having the soaring voice of Sarah Brightman...though that "soaring" sense is most tangible when in actual concert with her, though that's not stopped me from owning all of her CDs.
Heh, and I thought I was the only Sarah Brightman junkie out here *G* She's still my favorite Christine, but I saw this one who performed in Toronto, named Susan Cuthbert, who'd be a close second. She was the only Christine who used a blonde wig instead of brunette and was *magnificent*. Just jaw-droppingly good. It helped that she was paired with a fantastic Phantom (Paul something I'm blanking on his last name), and their "Point of No Return" made the entire audience forget to breathe.
I wish Phantom would come back to the Bay Area. I dearly love to see it yet again...This has raised a hankering in me to find out what local musicals are around. I've missed theater.
Haven't seen Phantom in years, though I've seen it performed in NY, Toronto and London, and been backstage (and onstage) for the Toronto one. If you haven't heard the Toronto cast recording I highly recommend it, it's superb!
