ebonlock: (One of those days)

I'm running on so little sleep today it's scary. About 4 in the morning I toyed with the idea of calling in but realized how much was on my plate today (including two conference calls, though one got rescheduled, a big stats project, etc.) and figured I could make it on fumes for at least one day. If I don't sleep tonight, though, all bets are off.

Got to see [livejournal.com profile] cyranocyrano for a bit and made it all the way up through "The Torment of Tantalus", one of my favorite season one episodes in which we get to see "Obsessive Daniel" in his full glory. I'd forgotten how many of his cool toys they insisted on breaking in back to back episodes early on. It's astonishing that Daniel didn't pout through the remainder of season one. We also got our first pass at the Asgard though there's much, much more to come with them. C- laughed a lot through many of the eps and overall seemed quite impressed, except the end of "Cold Lazarus" which was a little too bizarre and "very special episode of" for either of our tastes. Still, overall I think he's really enjoying the show so far and this makes me profoundly happy.

Also I have worked out in my head the perfect season finale for SGA given the little spoilery bits I've seen spread throughout the web. Everything fits together so neatly in my brain that I desperately want to see it played out on the screen. I used to be able to count on that with a couple of shows (DS9, LoM) but so far SGA hasn't been one of them. But I want it to be...I desperately do...

If I weren't pleased with SG:1 in general, I wouldn't have been so disappointed with random 'what' moments like the end of Cold Lazarus.
Who thinks that's a good idea? Who thinks 'hey, if I were a grieving parent' (which at least one of the decision makers actually *was*) 'then this is exactly what I'd want'?

See that was one of those moments that wasn't for the characters at all, it was aimed directly at the audience to evoke an emotion. I hate those moments, it throws me out of the story and I see the cheap ploy for what it is, which is just really annoying.
