Very quick post as power's already gone out here twice this morning. Driving was unpleasant but people seem to be acting in a mostly sane manner, so yay on that. But San Mateo is seriously getting smacked around at the moment, traffic lights are out, streets are flooded and I'm betting a few power lines are going to bite the dust before the day's over.

If all the locals could just check in and let me know you're safe and sound I'd appreciate it.

UPDATE: After the fifth power outage took out all of my work *again* I threw my hands in the air and said, "That's it, we're leaving." Nobody argued with me, we all wished each other a safe drive and took off. Parts of 101 were dicey and the 85 interchange was a right mess, but otherwise it wasn't too bad.

I have a mug of hot tea, a nice candle and an SGA marathon so life is good...at least until the power goes out.

I heavily debated working from home today, given the weather, but I did not. Ugh, it's windy out there.

I'm considering calling everyone to tell them not to come in, especially our wheelchair-bound ad guy, I don't trust the power here to stay on and he's screwed without access to the elevator...

I'm safe, though the power and *gasp* internets already went out here once. As far as sound, the jury's still out.

I'd like to go home now, though. I've been having to run around campus much too much this morning and my jeans are soaked. I think it's high time for hot tea and a nap with the cats, but maybe that's just me. *looks at the VP with puppy eyes* Yep, just me.

If the power goes out here again I think I'm just going to call it a day and see about working from home until the power goes out there.

I'm all for that, but do let me know when you get home safe. Also, I do need an email today, if just to give me an idea of when to expect you.

So long as the power stays on you'll get an email, promise. But worst case scenario I've got my phone with me.

A call or text message would do just fine. :) I just, uh, accidentally had an issue of Maxim delivered to the office. *blush*

Will do, I got halfway through your email when the power went out again. I'm chasing G- and J- out of here in about an hour and following close behind I think.

Awww. No worries, really. All the rest can wait, I was just eager to hear about dinner/timing. But call me once you're someplace safe. And be careful out there, love.

be safe
it's quite stormy here in SJ, but we're good, no power flickering yet (crosses fingers)
although I have a sneaking suspicion that the dude who's supposed to come by and fix the garage door is gonna cancel ;)

It's interesting that SJ is getting slammed too 'cause MV wasn't that bad when I left at 8. Oh it was raining, but the wind wasn't too awful, certainly not as bad as it is up here in SM.

MV is just as bad now, trust me. :/

well it was pretty wild 8-9:30 but it does seem to be lightening up on the rain now, maybe a pause between storms, but the wind is still gusting occasionally. but the good news is that the garage door dude just called and is on the way;)

My headache finally lifted between 7 and 8 this morning. By 9 the gentle pitter pat had been replaced by door-slamming winds and everything is wet from the sideways rain. Now I have a sleepy baby, a cup of tea and we still have power, so all is good.

Stay as dry as you can.

Will do, I'm getting out of here ASAP. The windows on our level sound like they're going to shatter and we've got some serious leaks as well. We've moved all the electronics that seem to be in danger but I get the feeling it's going to be a right mess on Monday.

We had power at home when I left, but three minutes after I got to work [livejournal.com profile] eilonwey let me know she'd lost power. Wish us luck!

Erik is safely at work and I'm back home after running minimal errands.

I still have power here, (for the moment.)

Clocktower lost electricity for about 30 seconds while I was loitering this morning about 8:10 (the one on Whisman, not the one next to the gym) and a couple of buildings on base have had blackouts and we had 2 or 3 servers go down and a UPS fail, but otherwise all is well.

I have decided that to predict how things will work out here with rain, substitute "snow" for "Rain" and substitute "Alabama" for "California" and it fits nicely. However nobody here is emptying the stores of milk and bread.

(They also empty the stores of toilet paper in Virginia, but not in Alabama. I don't even want to think about that one.)

It was raining fairly heavily when I drove to work at around 9:00, but not terribly windy (Mountain View to Santa Clara). I have no windows at work, and this deep in the cube farm there is no indication of how inclement the weather is outside right now. I just heard from [livejournal.com profile] tamago that we lost power at home again, though, and the wind noise is distracting Teo from napping.

*waves a little flag* I'm here and OK, although working from home (not cuz of the weather but because I woke up shredded again this morning).

I haven't noticed losing power (yet), but some of the wind gusts have been making interesting noises at the construction site across the street, and it was raining on me on the toilet this morning o.O (the winds are forcing the water into my exhaust fan system).

(EDIT): Oh, and I heard C-- leave the house this morning shortly before 10am, so he was at least okay at that point. :}

Heh, that's a new one, and one of the many joys of living on the top floor, eh? I'm just worried I'm going to get leaks in through the windows at this point.

Heh. Well, it turns out that your fear is the reality here, too. On a second trip in there, I found it was raining through the ceiling near the window. I think the 'rain' I felt was from the splashes made by the droplets hitting the water already pooling on my inset window sill. :P

Gah.

I took the train to work today. I would much rather get soaked in my mile walk to and from the train station in San Bruno than be on the roads for 30 miles in my car. (And, um, I also lent [livejournal.com profile] moonlightrain my today. But that's why I knew she could use it another day with no problem from me--I had no intention of using it today!)

Luckily for me, though, my boss picked me up at the train station, and I will hopefully snag a ride from somebody on my return trip. We still have power at my office in San Bruno, but the Serramonte shopping center not far from us is out.

Hang in there!

If you want a ride from the train station, let me know. I'm sure Ellie would understand if I'm a bit late to our SGA viewing tonight.

Thanks, hon, but that won't be necessary. The light rail is easy peasy to take. Besides, first I'm stopping off in San Mateo to meet my old coworkers for dinner, so I won't get into MV until 9:33 (if the train is on time), so I'll just hop onto the light rail. But thank you!

That might explain all the issues we've had with our systems at work today!
