ebonlock: (Sad Vader in Snow)

So I went looking for my iPod in my purse this morning and it wasn't there. I don't recall removing it. I know it was in there when I left for work yesterday. I am attempting not to panic.

If I tear the apartment to shreds tonight and still can't find it then there will be panic.

Then weeping.

Possibly some cursing as well.

Eek. :( I hope you find it.

Ok I finally got home and got a chance to see your icon and it is making me giggle madly. Given that my iPod is nowhere to be found, I can so use the giggle right now.

It is the closest thing to a 'sad' icon I have and I'm glad it made you giggle because oh noes on the lost iPod. :( :( :( (although when you said you were trying to be Zen about it, later, I thought 'Creative Zen, it's a sign'. But no.)

Toast either just told me he misses you or he's hungry. Maybe both. *hug*

I have been told that I must come over and see a certain Arnold-shaped hole in your screen door... :)

*snickers* And now Arnold is glaring at me.

The door is always open, dear. Mayhap we should try to schedule a semi-regular but not necessarily weekly thing of watching an old movie and curling up with some tea, crafts, and cats?

Oh you are definitely talking my language :) Though I suspect now that it's hockey season again that might prove at least a little tricky to schedule ;)

Well, the NHL games at least are scheduled pretty far in advance, so they're pretty easy to work around. ;) I'd suggested the not every week thing so it'd be easier to not feel pressed for time or something.

The only thing that might complicate things is that I don't know more than a week in advance when *I* have a game, or when it'll be. But we could possibly play it by ear.

Do you want to discuss it more the weekend after Halloween, if we're still getting together then? *hug*

*hugs*

Any chance it's in your car? Maybe under the seat?

Don't panic, dearheart. At worst we can just replace it.

I'll tear the car apart first, then the apartment and it's not at the office, so...

As CJ so wisely pointed out, we can easily pool funds and replace it for you, as all the music resides on your laptop still.

Maybe this time the engraving should read: "I'm not stupid, I'm not expendable, and I'm not going." ;) Ooo, and? This time we could get you twice the amount of memory for the same price! Hmm, if I keep this up I might start hoping you don't find it. I better stop....

To be honest I'm not sure I'd want to replace it, but yes let's not jump to conclusions until I have a chance to do a more thorough search tonight.

Um... if you don't like it enough to want to replace it, than why all the strife over the fact that it's gone missing?

You completely misunderstand, I *loved* it, and replacing it right away would feel rather like...well replacing a cat who'd died. You know? I'd need a little time to mourn my first iPod before considering getting another.

*giggles* Aw, damn, you know how much I hate it when you're cute. Stop it! ;)

Whereas CJ and I (both of the watery, emotional type) simply think "Oh, it's a thing! Things are fixable and replaceable!" *shakes her head* What do we know?

All the music is still on another source, right?
If needs be then we can arrange for an early Yule gifting or a late birthday gifting to replace missing hardware.

Yes it's all on my harddrive so it's not the end of the world. I'm attempting to be Zen about this, perhaps it was the universe's way to remind me that becoming too attached to material goods is really just standing in the way of my spiritual development. Or something.

The Universe says if you lost your iPod then we'll replace it with all good speed.

I know you said you aren't sure you want to replace it right away if it turns it's actually lost, but how being a foster parent to an extra one for awhile? I have one my previous employer gave me in January, and now I have the one my current employer gave me, too. You could use the 2 GB silver nano with color screen for basically as long as you want... until you find the original, decide to replace the original, or just forever. Let me know.

Oh honey that's so sweet of you, thank you for the offer, but if I can't even hang onto my own I'd be too neurotic to borrow one from anyone else. Right now I'm just kicking myself very hard for losing this one as it does appear to be gone. I'll check my building's lost and found this weekend and see if maybe anybody found it and turned it in.

But that's the beauty of this offer...it didn't cost me anything. In fact, earlier this year I gave it to my brother since he really wanted an iPod, but couldn't justify the money. But he recently was able to buy himself one (with more memory, too!), so I asked him if he could give me back the one I gave him in case someone else might need it. My parents visited him last week and brought it back. In fact, it's still at their house for me to pick up.

So, apparently, I must have sensed that someone might need it someday. =) The only thing is that you'd have to be willing to have my former company's logo on the back.

The offer still stands.

(At first I typed "The otter" which would have sounded like some sort of secret code for Le Resistance, or similar. Or maybe some native American saying I had just discovered. "The otter still stands.")

I just don't trust myself right now, if I lost one there's no reason I couldn't lose another. I just don't feel quite competent enough to hold onto anyone else's stuff, particularly their expensive stuff. Maybe if it's still available a few months from now when I finish beating myself up about this I'll reconsider. Fair enough?

Date: 2007-10-10 06:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jsmitty-o.livejournal.com
This is totally your choice and you should do whatever you're comfortable with. But just remember these things as you make your decision:
* It ain't expensive if it's free.
* I have two others (only one I paid for, so that's 2 out of 3 that were free)
* I'm not going to use it if you don't. So yes, it'll probably still be available in a few months when you're done beating yourself up over this, but if I find someone else who has lost theirs, you might have missed your chance. ;)
