Apparently there are scenes from this week's episode of Avatar "The Headband" up at Turbonick, it is a nightmare to navigate through so be prepared. [livejournal.com profile] hoshizora describes what he saw thusly:

It is by turns the funniest and most heartbreaking episode so far

Wow. Do I really have to wait until tomorrow night to see this? *whimper*

Also I have discovered that waiting until about 7:00 p.m. means I can drive 65 MPH all the way home. That is beyond awesome. Of course it gives me just enough time to feed the cats, water the garden, feed myself, watch TDS and CR, then mostly pass out. My hoped for exercise routine has gone right out the window which is not good. I need to ponder this.

PS: One of the guys in our management team noticed me playing Arcanom after hours, and I mentioned that it was a card game based on this web comic I'd helped work on, and he said "Oh hey, my kid reads Paranormals."

"Oh hey, my kid reads Paranormals."

No. Freakin'. Way. Dude ask him if his kids have any particular favorites I will totally innundate them with fannish booty if they do.

I've been planning just such a thing but haven't had a chance to implement it yet. Seriously, we could use some good quotes from parents/kids who like the series!

It's hard to believe sometimes that "Avatar" is a kid's show. Just based upon last week's episode the depth and dark nature of the story seems more geared to adults than children.

Then again we show some scary and depressing shit to our children.

The best kid's shows are always the ones that make you ask 'wait, they show this to kids?'. See also: Gargoyles and Batman: The Animated Series.

I watched "Pinocchio" with my niece and nephew a few years back, and I didn't remember how dark and really scary it is. I appreciate that kids need to understand there's darkness in the world, but that doesn't mean we have to scare the crap out of them when they're five years old.

Dude, you best not be hating on Pinocchio as a kid's film. That was like my addiction from ages 3-7.

Don't get me wrong. I love classic Disney animation. The scene in "Snow White" where the witch is chasing her up the mountain in the rain is one of the most amazing pieces of hand-drawn animation I've ever seen.

I'm just saying those movies can be scary, especially for some children who may not have the stomach for dark fare.

Personally, I loved them as a kid. Today I collect Japanese animation, especially Miazaki films, and what those guys do is incredible!

They can be scary, but I'm not sure I see your point. Obviously the parent in question should be mindful of what their child is and is not capable of handling. But at the same time, it doesn't pay to treat children as less capable than they actually are. Old cartoons like B:TAS and Gargoyles, as well as currently-running ones such as Avatar, are brilliant precisely because they deal with serious topics and themes in a manner that is appropriate for their relatively-young target audience.

I agree with you and I love Avatar. I do think these things teach kids about sadness, loss and evil. I'm just saying some kids are more sensitive than others.

I was also just struck at how violent they were watching them as an adult in retrospect.

I also grew up with kids whose parents didn't have a television by choice. (My hometown is Palo Alto in Northern California, near where I live now.) Those kids turned out okay and learned the same lessons from books, education and conversation.

If you're staying that late anyway, is there any chance you could start leaving later in the morning, to make up for it? I've been trying to figure out a time to exercise, too, since I loved your suggestion of the gym there, but don't really know when to do it.

I'd be happy to make time (I can work later hours, if I want, or so I'm told) to meet up in the morning, to get in a workout before work, if you'd like to try it. Lmk!

I'll definitely consider it, though the tricky bit now is that if I want to talk to any of the engineers I have to be here pretty early in the morning.

Oh, suck. I forgot about the cross-continent communication thing, which totally blows.

As much as I love what I've heard about Satoshi, I want to kick him in the head for this office move, because it is Not Good for you. -_-

Look, at least you live in a country where it is POSSIBLE to get onto Turbonick at all. There are like a million entries on my friendslist that I don't dare read because of spoilers. =(

So. Um. I saw 'Headband' last night.
Funniest and most heartbreaking episode so far?
I've gotta vote 'no' on that, after 'Bitter Work' and 'Tales of Ba Sing Se'.

That was my take on it too, it was a slightly dressed up redo of "Footloose". I liked the Zuko stuff but that was about it. These past few eps have seemed more like fillers than actually interesting parts of a bigger story. I'm hoping next week's will get us back on track.
