A quiet, productive weekend is a thing of beauty. I got all the gardening work done that I'd assigned myself and my Honeysuckle seems much happier now that I've gotten it proper support to grow all over. Picked up a couple more small plants to add to the collection including my first Basil, Lemon Balm, and an Alpine Strawberry. The compost I made from Aelf's last watermelon rinds came out beautifully and I've started a new batch. I'll get at least one or two more before it starts getting too cool to break down properly I think.

The cats have been tense and fidgety since they had an all out battle royale in the living room Thursday evening. The stray cat had stopped by for some food and they'd both gone running over to threaten it, which brought them entirely too close together. Kage took a run at Pye who refused to back down and soon they were rolling and screaming and clawing, fur flying everywhere. The stray cat gave them both a "WTF?" look and took off while I had to try to break them up. Pye's been uppity ever since and Kage's hissing if he comes anywhere near her. The power dynamic in the house is shifting and nobody's quite sure what their place is at the moment. I expect more fights ahead.

On a lighter note I finally got all the supplies purchased and my two Xmas quilts started for this year. I think the one for my niece could be wrapped up this week if I'm diligent about it. The other will require a lot more fiddly bits so it may be a down to the wire deal. But I figure starting now gives me a good chance of completing it on time.

I've also got to try to fit in finishing up the story I've launched into. Thankfully moonlightnrain let me bounce some ideas off her so I feel like I've got a basic plan now, and that's something.

I'd have thought your cats would have sorted out fairly authoritatively who was "top" long before now. Did the Cold War suddenly turn hot "just because"?

Well Kage's been top cat for a long time but Pye's definitely wanted to be the Alpha of the household. He's always made attempts and she's always kept him in line. But she's getting a lot older and her eyesight is starting to go which means Pye's getting her to back down occasionally and that's fueling his need for dominance. He's become a lot more demanding of my attention lately as well and I think that's a part of this.
