So I just watched the final episode of the most brilliant show ever aired and I did two things that I've never done before. One was pausing the episode every few minutes and getting up to go do something because I couldn't bear for the episode to end. I kept putting off the acknowledgement that when it was over that was it, no more to watch. The other thing I did was, as the credits rolled, I actually started applauding. I mean sitting here in my living room watching the ep on my laptop and I'm clapping like a mad woman.

I know, I know, everybody's sick to death of me talking about this show but it's damn near a religious experience. You just don't get this level of creativity, writing, acting and overall production pretty much ever. And it's not just 'cause I pretty much predicted exactly what was going to happen, what was going on, and what Sam would ultimately choose to do. And it's also not only because it reminded me strongly of what I continue to feel is the most brilliant fantasy series ever written (the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever). This show is just about as perfect as any creative endeavor possibly could be, and I don't say that lightly.

And now I'm going to burn [livejournal.com profile] cyranocyrano and [livejournal.com profile] moonlightnrain copies of the final two episodes then start copying series one for my family back east. I've already talked my mom and sis into watching it. Anybody else who needs 'em, comment me.

Interesting, I was disappointed with the ending itself, esp. because they are planning a sequel set in the 80's.

That said, it was satisfying to see the show end and them telling a consistent story.

It felt incredibly emotionally fulfilling to me, but then I'd been hoping for that particular outcome so maybe I'm too biased to give much of an objective view.

For some strange reason the fact that I found out they were planning a sequel pissed me off a lot.

That said, I like the ending in the sense that Sam had a choice and realized there was nothing in 2006/07 to hold his interest and so he chose death to return to Annie and the gang.

It doesn't bother me, but then I didn't read it necessarily as "death" in the end. I think it was open ended enough that you could interpret it in a bunch of different ways.

Perhaps so, but I choose to interpret it in my own way wherein he's simply indefinitely in a coma :)

It was well done, I was a bit disappointed with the Face of Boe's secret though.

It's an amazing show that I'm sorry to see it go, but happy that they ended it so beautifully.

I'm downloading series 1, but I would love DVDs of series 2. Although, hm, DVDs of series 1 means I'd be able to get other people to watch it too...

Ah, then don't worry about it. I can download it, probably. Or hope it will come out in the US. :)

I s'pose I shouldn't have read the comments here, since someone posted the ending & now I know how it ends, too. *sigh* but anyway, do please send me copies of the series - I have the four eps you sent me but for some reason the disc won't play anymore (it stopped working after ep 3).

It's been years (like, 20) since I read the Thomas Covenant books but - you're right. Brilliant!
