You know, to me obscenity isn't a couple of people (or more) gettin' it on, obscenity is stuff like this:

When you sit down to your Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, give a little thanks that you're living in a place where access to fresh, clean water is something you can take for granted.

Ouch.

I think my heart just shattered. That is one of the most cold-hearted things I have ever seen. :(

Hearts and minds...hearts and minds...

And yet, somehow, we're told to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.

To quote William S. Burroughs:

"Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
the bare lies shine through."

Huh, second piece of footage that I actually couldn't watch all the way through until the end in as many weeks. Just when you think you can't be more disappointed by your nation...

If there's one thing I've learned over the past 5 years it's that the bar can never be set low enough these days.

Wow thats just heart crushing and pathetic.

To provide a counter point tomorrow we will be having two stray marines join us for thanks giving dinner, not all of the military are cut from the same cloth as those shown here.

Does this excuse the act shown, no.

In all sincerity thank you for sharing.

Cold-hearted bastards like that are what made my formative years utter hell. How disappointing to see that some of them never grew out of that evil phase. Those troops are representing our country - us - and I'm ashamed.

Of course, not all the troops are like that. They can't be. But the stories, the images of cruelty and abuse, keep rolling in year after year. The cumulative effect is, PR-wise, devastating.

bah

I saw that a few days ago and pointed it out to friends back in MI. One was kinda pissed I posted it (denial), but oh well. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of disturbing videos coming out of Iraq.

It kinda makes sense when you consider the standards for being a soldier. The armed forces have made a significant jump in the number of "moral waivers" in the past 2-3 years. You know...things like felonies, drug use, etc.

At least it isn't all bad and I'm really hoping for a dramatic change of tactics/policy in the new year. I'm not so sure there's much hope of salvaging any sort of stability. We blew it big time and in large part because of jerks like the ones in the video.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to kill us! *snark*

I think it's at least a reasonably good sign that people like Kissenger are actually admitting the country is fucked and there's nothing we can really do about it. At least one person with the president's ear is finally seeing the light from reality.
