Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do
Mar. 3rd, 2003 08:48 amFellow Elijah Wood pervs, I highly recommend checking
undone27's latest journal entries. I quite like the "gymnastics" one.
Ahem.
Also, we're definitely not getting the ROTK trailer on TTT this month. Indeed we probably won't see it until TTT is released on DVD. It's hardly the end of the world, but it really does remove a lot of my remaining desire to go back and see TTT again. So much for my ten viewings vow. I contend if the film had been as good as the first I'd have happily seen it ten times or more, so ultimately it's really not my fault.
And my daily FOTR calendar has the cutest picture of Pip ever for today. I defy anyone to see this shot and not melt into a little puddle of goo. I can only imagine Aelf's squeak of joy when she discovered it this morning.
Friday night John, Aelf, and I opted out of seeing "Cradle 2 Grave" in favor of pizza and HK flicks at home. We ended up watching "Sex and Zen" to begin. Let me just say that the film has a whole lot of sex and very little Zen to the title's a bit misleading. However, if you were ever curious about what would happen if a horse's penis were grafted onto a man, this is the film for you. Personally I quite enjoyed the S&M lesbians, the highlight of the film for me.
Then we moved onto "The Touch", a probably-to-be-released in the US Michelle Yeoh flick that's kind of a mix between The Mummy and Tomb Raider. Our favorite character was the incompetant henchman Bob (played by the same actor who was so memorable as "The Waffler" in Mystery Men), though sadly he only makes it through about half of the film.
Then John put on "Monkey Fist, Snake...uh, I forget", anyway, it's generally referred to as "Monkey Kung-fu", which was classic old school HK. By this I mean it used the same voice actors as like every other film from the late 70's/early 80's, terrible sound effects, piss-poor acting, not a lot of plot, but lots and lots of ass kicking. Worked for me. But after 6 hours of head-kicking, wire work, and sexual perversions of every possible kind, it was time for bed.
Saturday we all went out for breakfast, then John and I zoomed up to SF for our Chinatown pilgrimmage. I behaved myself until we got to our favorite DVD place. Picked up a copy of "The Touch" and was stunned to see that they had VCDs of "Hero" already. This is a film I know is going to be released here in the US and was featured in a copy of EW not too very long ago. Jet Li, Zhang Zhiyi, sword flick with wire work and amazing costumes. They were actually playing it on the big screen t.v. while we shopped, so I was utterly doomed. John got a couple of free DVD's when he spent over $100 so he grabbed me my very own copy of Mr. Vampire, and a HK version of Very Bad Things that I'm dying to check out.
Anybody got a DVD player that can handle VCD's?
Then we took off for Berkeley to meet up with
jakejr for dinner and Shanghai Knights. I highly recommend the film, even if a lot of the gags are repeats from the first one, the fighting is even better. I mean this was really the first Jackie flick I've seen in ages that made me completely content with the fight choreography I was seeing. I would imagine he had a lot more control over the choreography in this one than the first and it shows. A little clue to American film producers, Jackie knows how to stage a fight, please let him do it.
Got home before midnight, which was my goal, and I opted to just stay awake as I was getting up at 4:30 anyway. This proved wise as I was wide awake to drive John to the airport. By the time I got back it started catching up with me and I curled up in bed until about 10:30. Then got up and baked some blueberry biscuits for the housemate and me, which went over quite well. We then decided to get some serious housework done including 3 loads of laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, dishes, and ultimately furniture re-arrangement. After getting things just so, we then proceeded to do the Dolphina Warrior Goddess workout for about 40 minutes, then danced for another hour or so. It felt really good after slacking off for a week and a half or so.
Afterwards we both crashed for a bit, before deciding we needed Chinese. Broccoli in garlic sauce, yum! For me it was then a hot bath, the one I'd been dreaming of all week, and then watching MST3K: The Movie. Even got to bed on time if you can believe that.
All in all, a very nice weekend.
I happened to catch part of a pro-war rally that was held on Saturday in D.C., and noted that there appeared to be about 100 people or so in attendance. Wanting to actually hear what speakers they'd arranged for, I stuck around for a bit. I came to a conclusion after about a half an hour or so of ranting. My conclusion is this: Robert Dornan is a complete psychopath.
No, seriously, have you ever listened to this man? He is completely and utterly bonkers. A summary
From the horse's mouth
I mean sure part of me was fascinated that he managed to link the war with Iraq to his Pro-Life cause, but it was in more of a watching a train wreck kind of way. Well that and I was highly amused by the expressions on his poor granddaughter's face. She was silent, but eloquently so, her face so clearly said, "God will you please shut up, grandpa?" One has to think that Bob is the relative who gets a little liquored up at family gatherings and by dinner is practically frothing at the mouth spewing righteous indignation and rhetoric while the rest of the family tries to find polite ways to avoid him.
I'm really tempted to vote for whatever Democratic candidate he hates the most, just on principle.
Mood update: Anger is down from "baby-head-biting furious" to a sort of warm, toasty fireplace level of mad. I think I'd like to stay here for a bit, it's empowering, I like that.

Date: 2003-03-03 09:48 am (UTC)Sad about no RotK trailer this weekend, but it does free up my Sunday, now, in case you wanna do something else instead.
I was going to make another comment, but I forget what it was now. :)
