Gosh it's nice to wake up in the morning on the winning team for a change. Connecticut has spoken, Joe, the voters don't want you, take a fucking hint and stop while you still have a shred of decency and respect left. Seriously, this kind of shite makes you look like the mother of all wankers:

LAUER: Let me go back to that line in your speech last night. I'll paraphrase it if you don't mind. You said, for the sake of your state, your country and my party, you will not let these results stand. It's a nice line in the speech, but the fact of the matter is there are a lot of Democrats who think that now going forward you are putting your own personal ambitions above the good of the party.

How do you respond to that?

LIEBERMAN: Well, I think it's time for somebody to break through the dominance of both parties by the margins of the parties, which happens in primaries. I think it's time for somebody to break through and say, Hey, let's cut out the partisan nonsense.

Yes, I'm a proud Democrat, but I'm more devoted to my state and my country than I am to my party. And the parties today are getting in the way of our government doing for our people what they need their government to do.

So in the end, Matt -- the great thing about America is that the people will have the last word.

...

LAUER: Senator, is there any phone call you could receive? Is there anyone in the Democratic Party who could call you today and ask you to drop out that you would listen to?

LIEBERMAN: Respectfully, no. I am committed to this campaign, to a different kind of politics, to bringing the Democratic Party back from Ned Lamont, Maxine Waters to the mainstream, and for doing something for the people of Connecticut. That's what this is all about: which one of us, Lamont or me, can do more for the future of our people here in Connecticut. And on that basis, I'm going forward with confidence, purpose and some real optimism.

Joe, the people could not have spoken more clearly than they did at the polls last night. Just grab yourself a nice, fat, cushy lobbying job like all the other former GOP cronies do and drink yourself peacefully into oblivion. It's the right thing to do.

Update: via Billmon

"The old politics of partisan polarization won today," said Lieberman.

Joe's right: A Republican got beat by a Democrat. Doesn't get much more partisan than that.

From the Hotline blog:

"A senior Republican official in Washington confirms that the party might encourage Republicans and others to support Sen. Lieberman if he runs as an independent . . . And Kevin F. Rennie reports that some GOPers in CT are thinking about ways to financially support Lieberman's independent bid."

See what I mean?

And from The RudePundit:

Lieberman lost because he was wrong, on the war, on indecency, on torture, on Social Security, and more, more, more. He lost not because he said he was right, but because he tried to say that wrong was right.

Lieberman lost like so many others will, mostly Republican, because they hitched their wagons to George Bush's star and that fucker went supernova.

I view this as a hopeful sign for November.

As for Joe, let's hope he gets the message from all the people walking away from him now.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that, particularly if the Repubs are willing to pretty much finance his independent run.

I love how Joe Lieberman, darling of the DLC, is going to free us from "the dominance of both parties by the margins of the parties". Freedom train's a rolling, and Joe's shovelling coal!

Joe's a dick.

Somewhere, somehow, the shit-fighting monkeys of our national media decided that the highest political virtue was a willingness to go on air with the Sabbath Gasbags and throw your own team under the bus, which is why we have to endure the constant hero-worship of McCain and Hagel and Zell Miller and the like.

Joe had a choice: listen to the Beltway or listen to the voters of his own constituency. He chose the former, and now rejects the consequences. If he'd left the Democratic party from the beginning and tried to make his way as an independent from the beginning of the primary season, that might have been interesting and defensible. But to get your ass beat now, and then cry for another bite at the apple...well, that just makes you a dick.

I mean, if the choice is between somebody who follows the party line 90% of the time, and somebody who follows the party line 90% but spends the other 10% loudly crapping all over the party...well, who do you think the party would rather have? That's the take-home message from this election. Everything else is speculative, this is the only concrete:

DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY VOTERS WILL REJECT A DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE WHOSE FAME IS BASED ON SHITTING ON DEMOCRATS.

It shouldn't take two degrees to figure this out. More importantly, somebody with three terms in the Senate should be able to grasp this and start backpedalling BEFORE the primary election.

Yes well given how Holy Joe ran his campaign (into the ground) this should come as no surprise. If people want a fantastic example of how not to get yourself elected, he's presented them with one.

On a similar topic, the media has apparently decided that liberal bloggers are hateful, vile, poo-flinging villains, but site like Little Green Footballs, (http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/08/lieberman-defeat-media-coverage-of-lgf.html) where racism and depravity reign supreme, are just sweet bastions of all that is good and light. Once again, folks, your liberal media...
