Hey we made it back from the delightful lunacy that was Lumos 2006, though just barely. The traffic gods conspired against us on Sunday and nearly did in
tersa and
moonlightnrain as they fled the city. We, thankfully, got their warning and ventured north to Reno and then back home from there. Despite going several hundred miles out of our way, we still made it home in slightly less time than they did. Poor things.
Other than that and some minor health issues on my part (yeah I know, what a shocker), it was a lovely time all around. There is just nothing like being around several hundred other rabid HP fans and knowing that you're not the only one who spends way too much time and energy thinking about the series. Saw some amazing speakers and can finally put together some faces with LJ user names, yay!
tersa and I invested in recordings of our favorite presentations, including one that posited the Snape/Dumbledore relationship as a spiritual mentoring one, which was so incredibly moving that the speaker and entire audience was in tears by the end of it. You don't encounter that kind of honest, heartfelt spirituality often in life and this speaker had it in spades. I honestly can't wait to read her presentation and hear it again when the recording arrives.
Another favorite presentation was definitely the one on HP music videos. I managed to find my favorite of those shown (It's Rainin' Men below), and a few others that you just have to see.
It's Raining Men
If You Were Gay (Starring Harry and Draco)
I Touch Myself (Harry/Draco)
Met a few fellow Snupin 'shippers though we were definitely in the minority. Still, the Snape fans were out in abundance and I have to say he got the best presentations by far. And the most popular, if you saw a huge line at Lumos it no doubt had the word "Snape" somewhere in the title. It did my heart great good to see. And Aelf actually scored me a "Trust Snape" bracelet that I happily wore all weekend long. She also got me a cool Ravenclaw pentagram and the Draco and the Malfoys t-shirt that was autographed by the boys! The dealer's room was kind of tiny, so I didn't really pick up much of anything myself, but I did see at least one piece of art in the gallery that really needs to be mine. Mmm, I should go look the artist up, actually...
In short, Vegas: Very hot
Lumos: Very fun
Now I need to do some serious flicking because 5 days without internet access has left me a bit twitchy.

Date: 2006-08-08 04:06 pm (UTC)I just wish we'd had a little more time between panels to actually talk to people, it felt like we were constantly running from one to the next. Although, I suppose that's possibly a good thing as it meant lots to do all day long, and lots of great presentations :)
Did you end up ordering any of the audio cd's? I picked up a couple, the Snape luncheon and "Teaching Obedience", both of which I can't wait to receive. I've also gotta sit down and go through all those PDF's of the presentations to see what I missed.
