Ok, I just need to say that
undone27 is my new hero. Not only did we get Cranberries music vid Lij pics on Friday, but today we get her all time top 10 pretty Lij shots! Allow me to commend her taste, but do go see for yourself.
And...uh... not quite sure what to think of this. More disturbing than the Rimmer Experience? You be the judge.
Busy, busy weekend, but nice too. Got to see some of my favorite ladies on Saturday and did more crocheting than any sane human being ever should at one go. But the color combos on my "scrap afghan" seem to be meeting with general approval. This is good. Also got to show off an episode of my all time favorite romantic comedy series, "Cupid". It seemed to meet with general approval, which made me profoundly happy. Oh and
tersa cooks a mean alfredo sauce, yummy!
Got home later than intended and for some reason I had my second wind so I spent some time going through the rest of my scrap yarn trying to figure out what colors to combine next. Not sure why I chose to do this then, but hey. Got to bed at a fairly reasonable hour nonetheless and slept in until about 9:30. Go me.
Sunday was a bit nerve-wracking as we were showing off our double veil routine to our teacher for the first time. She was delighted, and we were all massively relieved. Or at least I was, Alyne was also very helpful in pointing out areas we should work on, and giving us performance tips. We videotaped the choreography a few times and all gathered 'round to watch ourselves and our other members more closely than we can while actually trying to perform together. This was intensely helpful. I could really tell that
aelfsciene and I had been practicing the most together, we were totally in synch throughout each taping. Of course we have similar veils (heavier chiffon ones) so that helped too. We have to hold ours differently than the two with lame, and there's a very significant difference in weight. Probably far more than you ever wanted to know about veils, sorry 'bout that.
We then talked to Alyne about going into her intermediate class. I'm a bit dubious about being able to keep up with it, sometimes her beginner's class seems a little daunting to me. Still, I'm pretty decided that her dance style is my overall favorite. It's what I want to be able to do ultimately so it's time to challenge myself again. As if double veils weren't enough, huh? Talking to her after class was also nice in that she appreciated the fact that we all really apply ourselves to our study and are going the extra mile to learn to dance well. You have to make a commitment, a serious one, and you have to have the drive to stick to it. If you just want to exercise, it's not such a big deal, but if you really want to learn to dance, it's a lifelong learning experience, and one that you have to become at least mildly obsessed with.
After we got home I was dubbing our practice tape and started at the very beginning, just to watch the change in our style since January. The amount of improvement is startling to see. I mean just a couple of classes previously we were spinning around drunkenly, our veils flailing this way and that. Now we're so much smoother, more polished. We've all heard Alyne tell us how far we've come but I don't think I really believed it until I saw the evidence myself. And we're already discussing the next choreography. We're mad, I tell you, mad, but damn if I can't see some muscles in my legs and arms now. Woo!
Had a very small Global Beads accident, wanted to find a sarong I could cut in half and turn into a square overskirt for the lovely harem pants that
caredhel gifted me with on Saturday. Got that finished after spending a good few hours mowing the lawn and cleaning the house for my friend John's visit this weekend. Also watched the news for coverage of the peace march, which seemed pretty damn cool. Can't wait to hear
jakejr's take on it. Then we stumbled upon the Matthew Broderick version of "The Music Man" and ended up stuck there until about 10 at night. It was sweet, but I think I'd go with the original on that.
Then I went to bed but somehow managed not to sleep until about 4 this morning. Mmm, 2 and 1/2 hours of sleep. I am praying that the Mighty God Caffeine does not forsake me today. Must...sleep...tonight...After dance class and practice, that is.
